As sports fans we’ve all heard, “That’s why they play the game” several times. This past weekend the NFL made that expression true once again – the Chiefs beat the undefeated Packers and the winless Colts won a game.
If you are stopping by for the first time, “Just Football” is the Tuesday column where I take a look at some of the games ranging from the NFL all the way down to High School – and offer some commentary – and I also look ahead at upcoming games!
This week I take a look at an impressive team win, a note to some fans, games to watch, a monkey and a dog, bowl games, a holy cow stat in Division III football, and much more! Continue reading →
Like many football fans across Big Sky Country, I am upset that (apparently) the University of Montana Grizzlies and Montana State University Bobcats playoff football games won’t be shown on television in Montana.
I mentioned this in my highly read “Just Football” column yesterday and linked to a story in the Missoulian newspaper. Since then, the publicity about ESPN only showing the games on ESPN3, which is an internet-based channel, has grown tremendously.
There’s a Facebook page petition “Petition to have ESPN Have Feeds of FCS Playoff Games” that you can access HERE. Over 10,000 have signed up!

It was very tough in the NFL pick contest this last week – I went 7-6. There were some upsets (like the Jaguars beating the Ravens) but I am still holding my own against those paid sports people!
At first I was disappointed that the World Series was being played on Sunday and Monday nights – because that is football night! After the Saints were up 34-7 at the half (Sunday night) and the Ravens and Jaguars played a very boring game on Monday Night, it was OK. I went back and forth watching the games.
In case you are new to “Just Football” then welcome! Just about every Tuesday during football season, I take a look at some of the NFL teams, major college and FCS games, throw in some high school football, plus a few pieces of info you won’t get anywhere else. Continue reading →
My prayers go out to the folks in Japan this morning. Japan suffered a massive earthquake with much devastation, so please keep them in your thoughts and prayers in the following days. Prayer does work!
In this week’s Caught My Eye, I give my thoughts on potholes, toilets, hotdogs, March Madness, gas prices and I check out the e-mails that came into my political inbox. There’s more!
It’s the Christmas Edition of the (almost) award winning weekly column, “Caught My Eye.” This is where I take a look at some of the stories that I did not have to comment about during the week – sometimes sarcastically!
First, some breaking news: Congress is no longer in session, so we are all safe until January 5, 2011.
The staff here at The Western Word wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas! By the way, it’s not too late to help those in need this Christmas! Do something today!
A special thank you to all those who are away from home this Christmas protecting us. We miss you and we are praying for your safe return! Continue reading →
