Rest in Peace, John McCain

U.S. Senator John McCain, who may be the last statesman in Washington, D.C., died on Saturday after battling brain cancer for more than a year. He was 81.

McCain may best be remembered for a response he gave to a lady during an October 2008 townhall meeting when McCain was running for President (back then politicians still had the guts to hold town hall meetings).

The woman told McCain that she did not trust Barack Obama because he was an “Arab.”

“No, ma’am,” McCain replied. “He’s a decent family man, citizen, who I just happen to have disagreements with on fundamental issues, and that’s what this campaign is about.”

In watching McCain over the years, it was obvious that he could be just as tough on people from his own party as he was on people who were Democrats. I sometimes cringed when McCain questioned people during committee hearings because he was tough on many of them.
