Caught My Eye…

Thanks for stopping by to read “Caught My Eye” – the last one for April, so buckle up!

If you are a first-time visitor, “Caught My Eye” is posted right here every Friday morning! This is when I take a quick look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little.

Today I write about Barry Beach and Bullock, Lawrence VanDyke and the Supremes, Corey Stapleton telling us “Folks are Upset,” Cliven Bundy telling us “about the Negro,” and (sadly) about 40 veterans who died in Arizona.

Plus, we have a winner who is Making Montana Proud! Read on…

MT Senate 2014: The Plot Thickens…

The fine folks at Public Policy Polling (PPP) surveyed 1,011 Montana voters for a new poll about the 2014 U.S. Senate race featuring U.S. Senator Max Baucus.  They believe the race looks “competitive.”

Baucus was pitted against what seemed like everyone in the Montana GOP except the person who cleans their Headquarters in Helena (I think).

The poll was interesting (Read it here PDF). Here are some of my thoughts:

The poll told us that Baucus has a job performance rating of 45% approve and 48% disapprove which is not too alarming to me. One thing to remember is that Baucus has spent the last few years taking a backseat to Jon Tester, Steve Daines, and Steve Bullock and the millions upon millions spent in the campaign of 2012. Baucus can spend a few thousand dollars in statewide media to tell people what he’s done lately and change those numbers quickly. Baucus is already working on this. The groups who support him are working on it, too. Money won’t be a problem because Baucus can raise money like no other politician in Montana history.

Montana Senate 2012: Somebody’s Vulnerable

An early poll was released today from Public Policy Polling (PPP) about Montana’s U.S. Senate race in 2012.  You can view the results HERE (PDF).

The poll was conducted November 11-13 and 1,176 Montana voters were surveyed.  The margin of error is +/- 2.9%.  By the way, PPP leans Democrat according to several sources.

The poll shows Congressman Denny Rehberg leading Senator Jon Tester 48-46 (within the margin of error). Former Governor Marc Racicot leads Tester 49-42.  As for the only GOP candidate who has announced that he is running, Steve Daines, he is trailing Tester 48-37.

This poll is probably good news for anyone thinking of running against Jon Tester.  He is vulnerable.
