Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt got his first NFL start Thursday night against the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

It did not begin well.

Hunt played college football at Toledo. He had not fumbled the football since his freshman year of college. That’s about 855 carries with just one fumble.

On his first NFL carry in a regular season game, Hunt rumbled for seven yards and then fumbled to ball. It was recovered by New England.

That was his first NFL carry.

Hunt could have folded like a tent. He did not. He overcame the adversity. The next time the Chiefs had the football, Hunt carried the ball again. He ended up with three touchdowns and ran for 246 yards from scrimmage. The 246 yards Hunt ran from scrimmage was the most ever by a rookie in his first NFL game.

When asked about the fumble, Hunt told NBC Sports, “I just had to forget about it,” Hunt said, “I just had to go out there and make up for it.”

I think he made up for it.
