The Sunday Message

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day. ― Edith Lovejoy Pierce

It will soon be 2018 and this means it is a great time to start a Bible reading plan for the year. You can pick one to read the whole Bible or just parts of the Bible, like the Old or New Testament.

You can find some reading plans from by clicking HERE. has some reading plans that you can review HERE.

Maybe taking on a whole year is too much. There are shorter plans to fit your schedule.

I enjoy listening to the Bible being read. Some plans have audio programs.

Have a great 2018!

The Sunday Message

The new year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We can help write that story by setting goals. – Melody Beattie

By this time next week we will be well into 2015. January is a tough month for many people (me included). Sometimes I wish I could fast forward from January 2 to February 1 so I could skip the cold gray days of January. But I can’t so I will just have to deal with it.

A verse I try to remember is, The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

Another one is, Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. –1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)

But the best thing we can do when the cold gray days start to get the best of us is pray.

Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. –James 5:13(NIV)

Have a wonderful 2015!

The Sunday Message

We will soon be celebrating the end of 2013 and the start of 2014. Are you making any resolutions for 2014?

One of mine is to stay awake until after midnight on December 31. Maybe it’s the same with you! Of course I will try to lose weight, get more exercise, spend less money, etc. Those are kind of regular resolutions that happen every year.

Whatever your resolution, it has a better chance of happening if you pray about it.

One resolution I did keep a few years ago was to read my Bible every day. There are a bunch of daily Bible reading programs out there. I use the one my church uses, but there are programs on the internet that you can follow.

I have the Bible app “YouVersion” on my Blackberry and home computer. There are Bible reading plans on YouVersion and other devotional programs you can use. Some programs last a week and others are a year long. Some are audio plans so you can listen.  Another one that I have used is “Bible Gateway.”

Check them out and see if you like them!

Thanks for reading “The Sunday Message” each week – Best wishes for a very happy 2014!
