Barack Obama had his feelings hurt when he heard comments made by President Bush yesterday in Israel:

“Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along.”

Here’s what Obama says on his website about Iran:

Diplomacy: Obama is the only major candidate who supports tough, direct presidential diplomacy with Iran without preconditions. Now is the time to pressure Iran directly to change their troubling behavior. Obama would offer the Iranian regime a choice. If Iran abandons its nuclear program and support for terrorism, we will offer incentives like membership in the World Trade Organization, economic investments, and a move toward normal diplomatic relations. If Iran continues its troubling behavior, we will step up our economic pressure and political isolation. Seeking this kind of comprehensive settlement with Iran is our best way to make progress.

We don’t need another Jimmy Carter presidency. We saw up close how negotiating with terrorists and radicals worked back then. We all remember that it took a newly sworn-in President Reagan just a few hours to get American hostages freed after Carter had failed to do much of anything for 444 days.

Nobody can really believe that Barack Obama has the talent or the background for “direct presidential diplomacy” with Iran or other nations that harbor terrorists. Between Obama, Clinton and McCain, Obama is the lightweight in this category. The only way to deal with countries like Iran is from the angle of peace through strength.
