The Wednesday Read

Greetings! Here are the topics for today’s common sense commentary:

  • Campaign Mailers Update
  • Early Voting
  • Obama Defends Omar
  • World Series
  • One More Thing

CAMPAIGN MAILERS UPDATE:

Throughout the campaign season, I keep a close eye on all the political literature that comes my way—both the mailers flooding my mailbox and the flyers left on my doorstep.

Some of the better mailers will be shown here at The Western Word.

Like HERE and HERE.

By last week, my campaign mailer count sat at 26. Over the past seven days, I picked up 7 more pieces, bringing the grand total to 33 mailers as of Tuesday, October 20.

Please make sure you save your mailers and recycle them!

EARLY VOTING:

The Daily Montanan reports that Montana voters already are turning in their general election ballots — 60,329 as of Monday, according to the Montana Secretary of State’s Office. That’s 11.6% on average of the 520,035 absentee ballots sent, according to the Secretary of State’s ballot counts tracker. Montana has more than 780,000 registered voters.

Early voting for the November 3, 2026 midterm elections is off to a massive, record-breaking start across the United States. According to data compiled by the University of Florida Election Lab, more than 12.6 million Americans have already cast early ballots as of October 20, 2026. (Source)

The American public has reached a clear tipping point. Citizens across the country are exhausted by crushing supermarket inflation, high fuel costs, prolonged foreign conflicts, and a profound lack of leadership from the Trump administration. Real change is urgently needed. Although the President has two years remaining in his term, voters have the immediate power to check his executive overreach. By winning back majorities in both the U.S. House and Senate, we can effectively block the administration’s agenda and neutralize the Republican legislative stronghold.

OBAMA DEFENDS OMAR:

There is a lot of hatred in this country. I doubt many have been subjected to hate more than former President Barack Obama, and it was mostly because he is black.

We all remember Trump telling people that Obama was not born in the USA. How about the video Trump posted depicting Barack and Michelle Obama superimposed onto the bodies of dancing apes while the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” played? Trump also told people that Obama was the founder of ISIS.

Anyone with half a brain knows that the Trump administration’s recent investigations into Rep. Ilhan Omar represent a politically motivated effort to target a high-profile progressive lawmaker based on her background as a Muslim woman of color and an immigrant.

Some reports say they are examining whether she or her late father committed immigration and citizenship fraud. Specifically, sources indicate that Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is probing whether they misstated her birth date and age or omitted information regarding her father’s past military service when immigrating from Somalia to the United States in 1995, potentially impacting her subsequent naturalization in 2000. On October 18, 2026, Obama wrote the following on social media:

It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.

To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically.

Obama closes with:

The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

WORLD SERIES:

We have a truly historic matchup ready for the 2026 World Series as the Tampa Bay Rays square off against the Milwaukee Brewers.

While they might not have been the teams everyone predicted at the start of the season, that’s exactly what makes this series so special. One of these franchises is about to capture its very first World Series!

Game 1 is this Friday, October 23, on FOX. (Schedule)

ONE MORE THING:

Years ago, I brought my daughter along for ‘Take Your Kid to Work Day.’ The moment we stepped into the office, she burst into tears.

As my concerned colleagues rushed over to see what was wrong, I knelt down and asked her what happened. Through her sobs, she looked around and asked, “Daddy, where are all the clowns you said you work with?”
