Caught My Eye…

Thanks for ending your week with The Western Word! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Campaign Mailers Update
  • Stamp Out Hunger
  • TWW Reading Assignments
  • 76 Teams
  • One More Thing

CAMPAIGN MAILERS UPDATE:

For new readers, I keep track of the campaign literature received during the campaign season. Some of the better mailers get shown on The Western Word.

So far this primary campaign season, I have received 30 campaign mailers.

That is through Thursday (May 7).

Please make sure you save your mailers and recycle them!

STAMP OUT HUNGER:

Reminder – This Saturday (May 9) is the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

For over 30 years, the National Association of Letter Carriers has proudly led Stamp Out Hunger, the largest one-day food drive in America. This Saturday, May 9, leave a bag of nonperishable food by your mailbox, and your letter carrier will take care of the rest. Together, we can #StampOutHunger!

TWW READING ASSIGNMENTS:

Here are some articles you should read…

76 TEAMS:

ESPN is reporting that the men’s and women’s NCAA basketball tournaments are expanding to 76 teams, the NCAA announced Thursday. It is the first time the men’s tournament has expanded since 2011, and the first time the women’s tournament has expanded since 2022.

I think more teams means more blowouts. We’re already seeing uncompetitive early matchups; expansion just dilutes the talent pool and makes qualifying feel less like an achievement.

ONE MORE THING:

Veterans don’t hate authority. We hate stupid people with authority.
