The Monday Memo

Thank you for kicking off your week with The Western Word! Here’s what I’m covering in today’s column:

  • Sheehy’s Shutdown Spin
  • Check it Out
  • A House of Dynamite
  • Breaking Up
  • One More Thing

SHEEHY’S SHUTDOWN SPIN:

Montana’s junior United States Senator, Republican Tim Sheehy, has an opinion piece being published around the state with his thoughts/spin about what he calls the Schumer Shutdown.

Sheehy proves in this opinion piece that he knows very little about how the federal government works and how the United States Senate operates.

Sheehy contends:

Despite Chuck Schumer creating chaos by keeping the government shut down, my office’s focus sharpened on our most important charge: providing Montanans with high-quality, timely constituent services.

The fact is that only a very few essential Senate staffers in each office were allowed to work.

I’m still awaiting a response to the question that I sent to his office in April. Sheehy missed several votes, and I simply asked why.

By the way, I know a little bit about constituent services in the U.S. Senate office, and what Sheehy is providing is far from “high-quality” or “timely.”

I wonder if Sheehy’s staff were paid while working during the shutdown? According to THIS STORY, Sheehy made $1.9 million in the stock market last month, which brings his wealth to $153 million. I guess he did not need his measly U.S. Senate paycheck.

I am a veteran and I am normally pro-veteran, but since Sheehy was found to have told so many lies, I could not support him. I always thought that service academy graduates were taught to tell the truth. That’s the honorable thing to do.

We all remember the gunshot wound in Glacier Park, which may not have happened in the Park. He paid a $500 fine – was it to keep the lie going?

There’s also some confusion about how Sheehy was discharged from the military – was it injuries or resignation?

Then there was the possible plagiarism in his book, and that the book was not properly vetted.

Sheehy has cruised along without coming clean, and he’s learned to toe the party line instead of showing some independence. When he did an interview with a non-partisan reporter, he crashed.

Read the Sheehy spin HERE. Keep in mind, it is mostly the spin from the MAGA side.

CHECK IT OUT:

The Daily Montanan has a report posted about the fighting in the Ravalli County GOP. The article is titled:

Political strife in Ravalli County quieting, but court order raises questions for state GOP

Read it HERE

It seems when the Republicans get in charge, they can’t help but screw it up.

A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE:

I watched the movie, “A House of Dynamite,” this weekend. It was pretty good 5/5. It was pretty realistic. It is on Netflix.

Here is a synopsis:

From Academy Award winning director Kathryn Bigelow comes A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE. When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond.

No spoilers, so read on.

What concerns me is what happens if our current leaders (President, Secretary of Defense, NSA, etc) faced the same circumstances that they did in the movie. I can’t see them being able to perform because most of them have no experience or knowledge. Many of the Generals and high-ranking civilians who have expertise have been fired.

You can view the trailer HERE.

BREAKING UP:

In case you missed it, President Donald Trump and U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG) (R-GA) are fighting.

From what I heard in recent interviews, it is about the Epstein files and health insurance.

Trump called MTG a traitor and a disgrace to the Republican Party. He called her a RINO. He withdrew his support for her. He called her wacky.

You can read a report about the spat HERE.

As the song goes, “Breaking up is hard to do…”

ONE MORE THING:

The further society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.

## HAVE A GREAT WEEK ##

  1. Marge Greene said she has been getting death threats from MAGA nutjobs as a result of Trump’s vicious attacks on her. Should we expect a bombastic editorial from local foghorn Rick Tryon about the evils of violent right wing rhetoric from Republicans like he wrote about the left in relation to Charlie Kirk?
