Today is Friday, November 7, 2025, which is Day #38 of the Trump Shutdown—the longest federal government shutdown in U.S. history.
REMINDER – SNAP BENEFITS RALLY:
This Saturday, Nov. 8, from 10-10:30 AM, there will be a rally in support of SNAP benefit recipients at Helping Hands at the former First English Lutheran Church, 726 2nd Ave. N. in Great Falls.
According to the press release, organizers request:
Please arrive promptly, wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing. A free-will offering in support of Helping Hands will be collected.
The goal is to visually represent the people in our community adversely affected by SNAP reductions.
The photos and videos collected will be sent to elected officials at the national and state levels, as well as to other community leaders.
The Rally is being co-sponsored by: Citizens 4 Government Transparency, Helping Hands, Housed Great Falls, and Great Falls Rising.
More information can be found HERE.
SNAP BENEFITS:
Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich posted the following message on X that really puts things in perspective:
SNAP has existed for 60 years. Benefits have gone out every single month over those six decades, including during government shutdowns. Until now.
Make no mistake: The money is available to fund SNAP during this shutdown. Trump is making a choice to withhold it.
Don’t forget this.
On Thursday, a federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the Trump administration to find the money to fully fund SNAP benefits for November, a decision that the administration promptly appealed. (AP)
Congressman Jim McGovern (D-MA) posted the following message on Facebook:
Trump is the first president in American history to cancel food assistance for hungry families. Cruelty will be his legacy.
HALEY MCKNIGHT/TIM SHEEHY:
In case you forgot, Haley McKnight was the Helena City Commission candidate who said some nasty things in a voicemail to U.S. Senator Tim Sheehy. The voicemail was left back in July, and Sheehy released the information just a day or two before the November 4 election. McKnight lost the election for city commissioner. I said on Tuesday that I don’t condone threats being made to elected officials and that mature, educated people don’t make threats.
The MAGAs all across the fruited plains went into attack mode against McKnight and even the place she worked. (She was terminated from her job).
It was kind of ironic that Sheehy released the information months after it happened. Sheehy also sent a press release about the voicemail, which is also an interesting (petty) way to try to get back at McKnight.
I saw in the Helena IR that McKnight apologized for her remarks:
“I truly apologize for my words and the damage that they have caused. In my heart of hearts, I wish none of these things on Senator Sheehy. I’ve taken time to reflect on my words and actions, and what I said was inexcusable. He’s a person, just like me, and no one, regardless of their beliefs, should ever be spoken to like that. I wish him and his family well, and I am committed to a more civil discourse moving forward on my behalf.”
I will be waiting for Sheehy to suck just a little more publicity out of this incident by issuing a press release accepting McKnight’s apology.
NOT GUILTY OF SANDWICH ASSAULT:
The Associated Press (AP) reports that A former Justice Department employee who threw a sandwich at a federal agent during President Donald Trump’s law enforcement surge in Washington was found not guilty of assault on Thursday in the latest legal rebuke of the federal intervention.
Is this a great country or what?
Someone on X wrote,
“If sandwich shops don’t start offering a sandwich named “The Aquittal,” then what are we even doing?”

ONE MORE THING:
Friday Deep Thought…
All of Dorothy’s troubles could’ve been avoided if she had just put Toto on a leash.
## HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND ##

Trump was on the tube saying how immigrants are causing the crime wave the country is having. Great Falls has twice the crime rate as the rest of the country and I don’t believe we have much of a immigration problem. Unless you count the base.
Am I an immigrant since I came to Montana by the USAF?
I believe that if you move from one state to another you qualify as a migrant. Just not the ones Trump is interested in now.
What Sheehy really should do now is issue another press release condemning the violent and threatening language his MAGA supporters used against the store owners like hoping the store burns down and the like.
Someone who had actual principles about violent and threatening language would do that. If it isn’t okay from the left it isn’t okay from the right either.
Won’t be holding my breath.
Good point. More and more Sheehy appears to be for himself and nobody else. -JmB
