Congrats on making it to Friday! Here are the topics that caught my eye this week:
- Municipal General Election
- Update on the Dead Deer
- World Series Begins
- National Debt
- One More Thing
MUNICIPAL GENERAL ELECTION:
The MAGAs in Great Falls are spending a lot of time attacking mayoral candidate Jasmine Taylor. Some commentators on social media claim that incumbent Mayor Cory Reeves will have an easy time getting reelected, but with all the attacks, I think Reeves and his supporters might be a little worried.
I would be worried, too, if I had raised taxes, fees, and rates as much as he has in just two years. I don’t think the voters in Great Falls want more of that.
The attacks have intensified, and there are 12 days left until Election Day, which is November 4. The ballots have been mailed, and people are starting to return them. This is crunch time.
Yesterday, I told readers that I would like to see some new faces on the Great Falls City Commission. The current commission is a rubber stamp for the city department heads and the city manager. We need some forward-thinking younger people on the commission.
Therefore, I will support Jasmine Taylor for Mayor, Casey Schreiner for City Commission, and Matt Pipinich for City Commission. I hope you will join me.
UPDATE ON THE DEAD DEER:
This is an ongoing report about a dead deer on a city street in Great Falls.
On October 14, I wrote about taking my daily walk on October 9 and seeing a dead deer partially on the road within the city limits. I noted the location (23rd St. S. by MSU-GF) and when I arrived home, I called the non-emergency police department number. I gave the officer the location. He told me he would notify Animal Control.
Yesterday (Oct. 23), I made another attempt to get the situation handled. I contacted the City of Great Falls through their “Contact” form. I was assigned a ticket number. That was at 11:22 a.m. At 11:29 a.m., my issue had been assigned to the proper department. At 11:48 a.m. I received notification that the inquiry had been closed. I thought they were pulling my leg.
So around 4:00 p.m. on Thursday (Oct. 23), I drove by the location and the deer was gone. GONE! Is this a great city or what?
Thanks to all the readers who offered advice and jokes! It was appreciated.
WORLD SERIES BEGINS:
Get ready, baseball fans! The 2025 MLB World Series begins TONIGHT (Friday). It’s the Los Angeles Dodgers versus the Toronto Blue Jays.
All the games begin at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. All the games will be televised on Fox. If the series goes to a game seven, that game will be played on November 1. More information can be found HERE.
NATIONAL DEBT:
The Associated Press (AP) is reporting that in the midst of a federal government shutdown, the U.S. government’s gross national debt surpassed $38 trillion on Wednesday, a record number that highlights the accelerating accumulation of debt on America’s balance sheet.
Back on the day that Donald Trump was inaugurated (January 20, 2025), I took a screenshot of the National Debt Clock. The debt was a little over $36 trillion on that date. Here is that screenshot:

We can actually thank President Trump for increasing the debt, no matter how much the MAGAs spin it.
ONE MORE THING:
Some guy knocked on my door asking for a small donation for the local pool. So I gave him a glass of water…
## HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND ##

The MAGA partisan attacks on Ms. Taylor mainly from commissioner Rick Tryon are humorous as he claims Taylor is unqualified. Lest we forget when Mr. Tryon took office he had exactly zero qualifications for that job – no training, no experience, no nothing. Nothing more than a strident far right keyboard warrior and critic of the then-commission, promising things he could not and never would deliver, like no tax increases and hard looks at current spending.
Rick Tryon was the poster child for “you don’t have to be qualified to be a Great Falls commissioner”. But now all of a sudden “qualifications” are paramount? Unfortunately for Tryon, Ms. Taylor has far more going for her at this point than Rick ever did, in relevant education and work experience. Not to mention intelligence.
Commissioner Tryon as well as Commissioner McKenney and Mayor Reeves have morphed into total machine toadies for the city manager and department heads, rubber stamping everything the staff maneuvers them into. It’s time for some new eyes and new viewpoints on that commission.
YES! I agree 💯
