Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Welcome! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • White Lives Matter Fliers
  • Federal Government Shutdown
  • Hegseth’s Meeting
  • Major League Baseball Postseason
  • One More Thing

WHITE LIVES MATTER FLIERS:

Following up on yesterday’s post about the fliers promoting a white supremacist group being left in several yards around Great Falls, City Commissioner Rick Tryon says his wife found one in their yard. (Source)

KRTV in Great Falls has a report about the fliers HERE

Great Falls mayoral candidate Jasmine Taylor has been out front on this issue for years, removing and tracking the hate being spread by the White Lives Matter group. Read her comments HERE

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN:

The threat of the federal government shutting down is becoming a reality, as evidenced by CNN’s countdown clock on its screen!

The Associated Press (AP) is reporting that with a government shutdown fast approaching, Democratic and Republican congressional leaders left a White House meeting with President Donald Trump Monday afternoon, showing no sign of compromising from their entrenched positions in order to avoid a lapse in funding.

The shutdown will go into effect at midnight Eastern time Tuesday (today).

Meanwhile, the spin from both sides is nauseating. It’s hard to believe what either side is saying.

It looks like there will be a final vote to fund the government for seven more weeks on Tuesday in the U.S. Senate. They will need 60 votes for it to pass. The AP says eight Democrats will need to vote for it. (Source)

CBS News has an article posted about who will still be paid during the shutdown. Check it out HERE

Of course, the President, U.S. Senators, and U.S. Representatives will be paid.

HEGSETH’S MEETING:

Hundreds of generals and admirals from around the world will meet at the Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia, today at the request of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

The Hill is reporting that the directive was reportedly sent to virtually all the military’s top commanders worldwide, including all senior officers with the rank of brigadier general or above, their Navy equivalent, and their top enlisted advisers — more than 800 generals or admirals.

President Donald Trump is also attending the meeting.

It sounds like the cost of getting all these people together for the meeting will be exorbitant, but letting little Petey and Donny rub elbows, take selfies with these patriots, and let them know who is boss will be priceless.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL POSTSEASON:

Today (Tuesday) is the first day of the Major League Baseball playoffs. There are four games scheduled for Tuesday. I look forward to watching the Yankees and Red Sox go at it!

You can view the postseason schedule and which channels the games will be telecast on by clicking HERE

ONE MORE THING:

I feel like Willie Nelson has been the same age all my life…

  1. It is astounding that the picture of the WLM flyer bag allegedly found by Tryon’s wife in his yard shows exactly the same bag that was provided to news outlets the previous day in a picture provided by commission candidate Casey Schreiner, down to the patterns of the sharpie blackouts. Tryon is not normally shy about sharing pictures he actually took himself.

But interesting to learn the perp must have been targeting more than just the previously reported 6th Ave North neighborhood.

  2. Watched some of Bone Spurs Quantico speech, they shared a view of the military leaders from behind. Lots of bald spots, something they do have in common with Trump.

      • It was troubling to read that Trump considers the current military deployments into American cities as merely training for some unspecified future actions, as opposed to quelling current crime like he has claimed.

At least Hegseth didn’t make the generals stand, salute, and repeat “Heil Trump!” or make them swear a loyalty oath to the fat one.

        Yet.

      • Heil Trump is really what they want.
Someone somewhere will need to stand up against the unlawful use of the military. The Supreme Court has to get involved. -JmB
