We made it to Friday! Here are the topics that caught my eye this week:

PULLING OUT ALL THE STOPS:

Great Falls City Commissioner Rick Tryon and many MAGA supporters in Great Falls are pulling out all the stops to ensure their candidates are elected in the upcoming municipal election.

They must be worried.

The latest hit piece from Tryon is about some comments from local candidates Mathew Pipinich and Jasmine Taylor, who supposedly said F*** ICE, and called Trump supporters Nazis.

Tryon closes his column with:

When will local Democrats start demanding accountability from their so-called leaders like Pipinich and Taylor? The longtime silence on this kind of dangerous, incendiary hate speech from some Great Falls Dems I know personally to be good people is complicity. 

I remember when the MAGAs in and around Great Falls held signs that read F*** Joe Biden, or they chanted the code for it, “Let’s Go Brandon.” The MAGA President, Donald Trump, routinely says nasty things about people he dislikes. 

I personally don’t like the name-calling from either side. It’s childish. While it can be called “Freedom of Speech,” it can also have consequences, just like raising taxes, fees, and rates have consequences. 

JAMES COMEY INDICTED:

In case you missed the news late Thursday afternoon, James Comey was charged Thursday with lying to Congress in a criminal case filed days after President Donald Trump appeared to urge his attorney general to prosecute the former FBI director and other perceived political enemies. (Source)

The Associated Press (AP) noted that the criminal case is likely to deepen concerns that the Justice Department under Bondi is being weaponized in pursuit of investigations and now prosecutions of public figures the president regards as his political enemies.

One of my favorite follows on X is Keith Olbermann. He had this to say:

Breaking: Comey charged, as part of Trump’s Hitleresque retribution plot

America is now a failed democracy. We live in a dictatorship headed by a broken-brained imbecile

Sadly, it seems Olbermann is correct. 

TIKTOK IS SAFE:

I have an account on TikTok (@Bigsky1959) and use it often. I was against the government taking away my freedom to use TikTok.  

I am happy to read the following from Reuters:

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Thursday declaring that his plan to sell Chinese-owned TikTok’s U.S. operations to U.S. and global investors will address the national security requirements in a 2024 law.

  1. Tryon seems to be trying to incite one of his followers to commit an act of violence against Taylor and/or Pipininch. Both have already received death threats in this campaign.

    If Tryon wants to see the kind of rhetoric that gets people hurt he need only look at his own Facebook posts.

    • I am afraid that is what it’s coming to in Great Falls. There are some mentally unstable people out there who think some local officials are God-like. -JmB

  2. Something seems very wrong about the U.S. government strong-arming a foreign government to sell a very successful private company to handpicked insider buddies of the dictator. Sounds like China, or Russia.

    Insider buddies who share the dictator’s far-right beliefs and will steer TikTok in that direction much like they are doing with other media takeovers.

    TikTok has only been saved for cute cat videos and recipes.
