It’s hump day, and here are the topics for today’s column:
- Request for Information
- Texas, Bondi, & Trump
- The First Amendment
- One More Thing
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION:
According to reporting in the Helena Independent Record (IR), the Montana Department of Corrections last week issued a request for communities across the state to say whether they are interested in hosting a new women’s prison after months of discussions over where the facility should be built.
That seems like a good way of deciding on a location.
The IR also reports that the department’s Request for Information went out on Sept. 10, seeking feedback from local municipalities through Oct. 15 on whether they would like to commit to being an option to host the prison.
This should give communities time to gauge the level of support for a new prison.
TEXAS, BONDI, & TRUMP:
The Texas Tribune is reporting that the Texas Education Agency is investigating roughly 180 complaints against teachers who have been accused of making inappropriate comments online about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s death, as several educators across the state have already been punished for allegedly doing so.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Pam Bondi is receiving pushback on social media from both liberals and conservatives after she suggested that “hate speech” could be prosecuted under the law during a podcast interview on Monday.
The attorney general took to X on Tuesday to clarify her position, noting that hate speech would only be prosecuted when the language used crosses the line of calling for violence. (Source)
Also, President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against the New York Times because he is a whiny, fat crybaby. The “whiny fat crybaby” remarks were added by me. Trump did file a $15 billion defamation lawsuit late Monday against the New York Times and some of its most prominent reporters for articles and a book, making the case that he built his fortune and reputation in part through fraud. THE FIRST AMENDMENT:
This might be a good time to review the First Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
ONE MORE THING:
I love board games. My favorite one is where people put meat and cheese on a board. Maybe some fruit and crackers. I’m so good at that one.
