Thursday Thoughts

Happy Thursday – just a reminder that the NFL season begins tonight!

Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Montana Public Service Commission
  • Florida is for Dummies
  • If You Wanna Get to Heaven
  • One More Thing

MONTANA PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION:

I caught the three-hour meeting of the Montana Public Service Commission (PSC) yesterday. That is three hours that I won’t get back!

During the meeting, they discussed Vice President Jennifer Fielder’s letter to Governor Gianforte, asking him to suspend PSC President Brad Molnar, alleging that Molnar is stymying an internal investigation into his conduct. (Source)

Spoiler alert – the PSC voted 3-2 against Molnar’s request to rescind Fielder’s letter to the governor.

The commissioners talked and talked and talked. Then they talked about the process and Robert’s Rules of Order. They had a staff attorney speak and answer questions. The PSC executive director testified.

The biggest thing I took away from this hearing was that these commissioners don’t get along, and they probably never will. They are all Republicans. The PSC is dysfunctional. There needs to be a better way.

You can watch the hearing HERE

The Daily Montanan reported on the hearing HERE. The Helena IR has the story HERE

FLORIDA IS FOR DUMMIES:

In case you missed it, the Associated Press (AP) reported that Florida plans to become the first state to eliminate vaccine mandates, a longtime cornerstone of public health policy for keeping schoolchildren and adults safe from infectious diseases.

Anna Eskamani, who is running for Orlando mayor, probably said it best:

“This is a public health disaster in the making for the Sunshine State.”

That reminds me that I need to schedule my annual flu and COVID vaccinations. I believe in scientists, not politicians.

IF YOU WANNA GET TO HEAVEN:

The fact-checking website Snopes is reporting the following statement as TRUE:

An August 2025 email from one of U.S. President Donald Trump’s political action committees asked for $15 donations and began, “I want to try and get to heaven.”

I am not the ultimate decision-maker on whether Trump is a Christian. I hope he is. From his actions, I don’t think he understands religion as it pertains to God and Heaven (remember Two Corinthians?).

We will all find out in the end…

ONE MORE THING:

Triscuits are the perfect snack for anyone who has ever had the urge to eat wicker furniture.
