Happy Friday! Here are the topics that caught my eye this week:

GF MUNICIPAL ELECTION: 

The MAGAs in Great Falls sure seem to be worried about Jasmine Taylor, who is running for mayor of Great Falls. Taylor is running against incumbent Cory Reeves.

Perhaps it’s because Reeves has voted to raise rates/fees significantly during his term. The spending from the current commission is out of control, and residents are tired of seeing their bills go up almost every time the city commission meets.  

KRTV has a story posted about Great Falls City Commissioner Rick Tryon’s post on Facebook attacking Taylor “over her unwillingness to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.” Tryon is a Reeves supporter. 

Taylor responded:

“The commission would rather we don’t look at the fact that our water park is running at a deficit of $10,000 a month,” says Taylor. “There are real material things affecting our community, and they are not whether or not I’m going to say something that includes the words ‘under God’. That doesn’t affect our budget.”

Over at the E-City Beat blog, where Tryon occasionally posts, the founding editor and publisher, Philip Faccenda, posted a column about Taylor wanting to defund the police. Tryon linked to it on his Facebook page, where the hatred toward Taylor was out in full force. Here are some of the comments:

“She is such a loon.” “She is stupid.” “She is totally insane.” “POS” “Fn idiot!!! Deport the liberals too!!! That’s gn UN-AMERICAN!!!!” “Stupid bitch.”

As for Taylor, she posted a video on TikTok saying, 

“Look for me in the news! Thanks Rick. The amount of publicity you give me with your sheer unadulterated misogynistic hate it’s really helpful. You’re probably my most helpful fan. Thanks.” 

The municipal general election will be held on November 4, 2025.

TWO WEEKS:

President Donald Trump said Thursday he will decide within two weeks whether the U.S. military will get directly involved in the conflict between Israel and Iran, given the “substantial chance” for renewed negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program, as the two sides attacked one another for a seventh day. (AP) 

I think Trump will bomb Iran because he likes the publicity, and it will make him look tough. I don’t think we should get involved. I have read that the so-called “bunker buster” bombs may not work. (Source) Then, there’s a chance that blowing up the nuclear facility may spread nuclear contamination. (Source) If Iran responds, there are around 40-50K U.S. troops in the region. (Source)

His remarks, which included a “mid-commencement address dance break,” gave graduates comedic words of wisdom, encouraging them to be kind, fuel ambition instead of being envious, not hold grudges, be a good listener, and show respect.   1. I was 9 yrs old when DDE signed the bill adding ‘under god’ to what had been a totally non-religious declaration of loyalty. That was the height of McCarthyism and the ‘red scare’ panic. Even at age 9, I was very aware of the magnitude of that 2-word addition and NEVER used those words as I recited the Pledge. Never then, and never since.

    It has always appalled me that all 3 of the Abrahamic religions – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam – have invariably declared that THEIR god is devoted only to THEIR country, THEIR ethnicity, THEIR neighborhood.

    THEIR god may be omniscient and omnipotent, but I don’t think even that would make it possible to be the champion they claim.

  2. Bomb, Bomb Iran

    I am not a scientist, but does it make sense to bomb a facility that is manufacturing nuclear weapons? Kill all their camels or something, but do not light a fuse like that.

  3. I do not recall a municpal election where any candidate or fellow commissioner has gotten this personal and nasty. Leave it to Tryon to take things to a new low.

    Now what’s with the demand for Taylor to drop out (so Cory can run unopposed)? Great Falls voters don’t need a self-important blowhard commissioner dictating who can be on the ballot. Voters can make their own decision. And why even bother since Cory assures us he’s going to win with 70% of the vote? Unless the object is simply to be a dick.

    Tryon’s behavior is making Cory look bad.

    Before the election Cory said he hoped someone would file to run against him, and the after Taylor filed said he welcomed the competition and looked forward to discussing the issues because there were some real.differences regarding the future of the city. Great, bring it on. But then he flip flopped and refused to debate. And now his attack poodle Tryon is demanding Taylor drop out to make for clear unopposed sailing for Cory.

    There must be something the Cory/Tryon team is really worried about. Why is Cory afraid to debate a girl? We voters deserve a face to face debate to hear about these “real differences” of policy.

    • Agree! I think they know people are tired of all the increases – some of which they caused.

  4. Tryon believes the Pledge is what separates him and his fellow badge bunnies from the godless commies. I remember giving that solemn oath everyday in school for years and not knowing what it meant. I don’t know if they still require it. Good for Jasmine.

    • If Tryon and his fellow MAGA running dogs believe the pledge is what separate them from the godless commies then they’re in trouble. The local Democrats stand and recite the pledge of allegiance to the American flag before their monthly meetings.

      The MAGAs don’t exclusively own either the pledge or the flag, much as they would like to pretend they do. Those are ours. All Americans.
