RESIDENTIAL REHAB FACILITY:

KRTV in Great Falls is reporting that dozens of residents were present at the Cascade County Zoning Board of Adjustment’s public hearing on Thursday, May 15, 2025, to address a special permit application submitted to establish and convert a home into a residential rehab facility in the Belview area. The application was submitted by “Healing The Circle Lodge” with plans to buy the property to function as an inpatient chemical dependency facility with a maximum residency of 18 clients.

It sounds like the old NIMBY rule (Not In My Back Yard). After all the testimony, KRTV reported that the County Zoning Board moved to recess its decision due to the application being incomplete. 

MONTANA GOP CHAIR:

The Montana Free Press (MTFP) is reporting that the Montana Republican Party will select new leadership in June. There is growing interest in the MTGOP chairmanship with the upcoming end of Don “K” Kaltschmidt’s term.

I don’t know why anyone would want this position. It’s like herding cats. Kaltschmidt has left the Montana GOP in very good shape with all statewide offices controlled by Republicans, not to mention control of the State House, Senate, and PSC. Is there any way to go but down for the new leader? 

FORMER FBI DIRECTOR COMEY:

Republicans are upset with a post on Instagram from former FBI Director James Comey in which there was a photo of shells arranged on a beach that read “8647.”

According to Axios, “86” is a slang term that can mean “to get rid of” and some use it to mean to kill — something President Trump’s elder son, Donald Trump Jr., pointed to on X as he shared a screenshot of Comey’s since-deleted post with the comment, “Just James Comey causally calling for my dad to be murdered.” Trump is the 47th President. 

Axios also reported that Comey said in an updated post he assumed the shells were “a political message,” but “didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence.” (Axios)

So now we’ll have an investigation! Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, whose agency oversees the Secret Service, said on X that DHS and Secret Service were “investigating this threat and will respond appropriately.” (Source)

TRUMP’S PARADE:

Reuters and several sources are reporting that twin celebrations of U.S. President Donald Trump’s birthday and the Army’s 250th anniversary will include as many as 25 tanks rolling through Washington in a celebration that will cost $25 million to $45 million, U.S. officials told Reuters on Wednesday.

The Washington Post reported that service members will be housed in the Agriculture Department and General Services Administration buildings for days.

I like to see our military recognized for their service to our country. This event is more to stroke Trump’s ego than anything else. Plus, we can’t afford it. We should let our troops have the holiday off to be with their families.
