The Wednesday Read

Greetings! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Voting in Montana
  • Montanans Granted Pardons
  • Elon Musk
  • One More Thing

VOTING IN MONTANA:

I think the Republicans want to make it harder to vote in elections, especially if you belong to a group that might vote for Democrats. This seems to be the method of operation for the Republicans in the past decade. Thankfully the courts are here to protect voting rights.

The Associated Press (AP) reported that Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen, a Republican, argues that only lawmakers have sway over state elections under the U.S. Constitution. She asked the justices to consider the case after the state’s highest court struck down laws ending same-day voter registration and prohibiting paid ballot collection.

The AP reported that the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the case in a brief order without explaining its reasoning, as is typical.

Instead of putting up roadblocks, it would be nice if the Secretary of State made it easier for everyone to vote in Montana!

MONTANANS GRANTED PARDONS:

MTN News has a story posted about President Donald Trump granting clemency to roughly 1,500 defendants accused and convicted of crimes connected to the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. In the story, MTN News identifies nine people with direct Montana ties who received pardons, had their cases dismissed, or had their sentences commuted.

These people will probably become folk heroes in Montana. MAGA talk radio will celebrate their clemency with interviews and they will be proclaimed heroes by the MAGA-controlled Montana Legislature. Maybe our Federal Republican Congressional delegation will give them jobs in their Washington offices since they already know their way around the Capitol…

ELON MUSK:

Elon Musk was giving a speech at a Trump rally Monday and some people are saying his gestures resembled a Nazi salute.

The New York Post reported:

The billionaire tech titan caused a stir on social media after he placed his right hand over his heart and then extended his arm into the air as he thanked Trump’s supporters on Monday ahead of the Inauguration Day parade.

“Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is sooo tired,” Musk, 55, said in a post on X as he addressed the backlash.

You can see a video HERE

Do you think Musk gave a Nazi salute?

ONE MORE THING:

If cauliflower can become pizza, then you, my friend, can do anything.

  1. Last Fall at our election in Cascade County there was a long line all day of people waiting for same day registration. A great many of them were there to vote for Tubby. Mostly younger working people. That’s who Christi and Austie want to disenfranchise.

  2. No need for a translation in sign language. And I think that Musk, a big supporter of right wing causes around the world, thinks he’s being clever when he purposefully used this sign and then attempts to use plausible deniability to try to weasel out of it! Can’t have it both ways. Can’t be a genius and a dumb azz at the same time! Some signs are universal and incapable of being used incorrectly. Both genius and dumb azz know this and don’t use this sign mistakenly. He knew but doesn’t care.

      • Thanks for the heads up Mike. I was going to use the double salute tonight at the local MAGA/Klan/SS meeting.

      • The picture there in the Babylon Bee article with the clueless grinning goof in the background reminds me of a something I read on X the other day (so it must be true!). This person claimed Frank Zappa wrote his song “Dancin’ Fool” about Trump. What do we think?

“I don’t know much about dancin’
That’s why I got this song
One of my legs is shorter than the other
And both my feets too long
Course now right along with ’em
        I got no natural rhythm
But I go dancin’ every night
Hoping one day I might get it right”

      • You are correct Frank did pass in 1993, but according to the X post the song was inspired by Trump’s disco playboy days of the 70s. It appeared on Frank’s 1979 album Sheikh Yerbouti. Apparently Trump was a topic of “conversation” in some circles even back then.

Incidentally, I found this exclusive photo of Trump’s inaugural ball on the Internet, too. What a great tool that Internet is. Wow that guy sure has gone through some changes since those halycon days of the 70s, hasn’t he?
