The Monday Memo

Welcome! Here are the topics that made today’s column:

  • FCS Championship
  • Inaugural Ceremonies
  • New Websites
  • Trump Sentencing

FCS CHAMPIONSHIP:

Reminder – The 15-0 Montana State Bobcats meet the 13-2 North Dakota State Bison for the FCS National Championship in Frisco, Texas, today!

The game starts at 5:00 (Mountain time) and will be televised on ESPN/ESPN+. (Source)

I think this will be the toughest test for the Bobcats. The Bison are an excellent team. As of Sunday night, the Bobcats are favored. (Source)

INAUGURAL CEREMONIES:

According to a press release from the Montana Governor’s office:

Governor and First Lady Gianforte has invited all Montanans to the State Capitol for the Inaugural Ceremonies of the State of Montana on Monday, January 6, 2025.

During the ceremony, Governor Greg Gianforte, Lieutenant Governor Kristen Juras, Attorney General Austin Knudsen, Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen, State Auditor-Elect Jim Brown, and Superintendent-Elect Susie Hedalen will take the oath of office.

At this time, the event is scheduled to take place on the front steps of the State Capitol with the ceremony set to begin at 10:30 a.m.

Note: The 69th Session of the Montana Legislature begins at noon today (Monday, January 6). That means the circus is in Helena for a few months!

NEW WEBSITES:

The websites for Montana’s newest members of Congress are accessible.

You can view U.S. Representative Troy Downing’s (MT-02) website HERE

You can view U.S. Senator Tim Sheehy’s website HERE. This is only the initial page.

I have already signed up for Downing’s newsletter and will do the same if Sheehy offers one.

Montana is going to be a little weak in seniority in the 119th Congress.  U.S. Senator Steve Daines is ranked 53rd and Sheehy is ranked 99th in the U.S. Senate. (Source) As for the U.S. House, Rep. Ryan Zinke has four terms (Counting the current 119th Congress) and Rep. Downing is in his first term. (Source)

TRUMP SENTENCING:

The Associated Press reported Friday that a judge on Friday set President-elect Donald Trump’s sentencing in his hush money criminal case for Jan. 10 — a little over a week before he’s due to return to the White House — but indicated he wouldn’t be jailed. (Source

January 10 is this Friday! This will be fun to watch.

The AP also reports that this development nevertheless leaves Trump on course to be the first president to take office convicted of felony crimes.

Congratulations!

Trump is 78 years old – too old to be President.

  1. Still hard for me to believe that our entire congressional delegation consists entirely of MAGAs who have sworn loyalty not to the Constitution and the people of Montana, but to the crude, vile, traitorous sexual offender and con man who will continually attempt to undermine democracy in our country and appease our enemies. This is sad beyond belief. We have surely surpassed even Mississippi in the percentage of stupids. And now, it will be a race to the bottom. I don’t foresee us getting our good reputation back any time soon, for once you become known as a MAGA state, you only attract losers, racists, homophobes and deadbeat outta staters. Kind like our MAGA legislators.
