Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Welcome to October! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Tester/Sheehy Debate
  • Another Sheehy Scandal
  • Happy Birthday
  • Vice Presidential Debate
  • One More Thing

TESTER/SHEEHY DEBATE:

I watched the debate between U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D) and challenger, Tim Sheehy (R). These are my observations.

Tester came across as more of a statesman than Sheehy. Tester’s experience showed all night and Sheehy had trouble getting points across. Sheehy is applying for a job in which he has no knowledge or experience. He seems to think he can buy it since he is a millionaire.

Sheehy said his racist remarks about Native Americans were insensitive, but would not apologize.

Sheehy denied wanting to privatize public lands although he served on a think tank that wants to do just that.

In one weird response, Sheehy said, “I wish I was born in Montana. But I couldn’t control where my mother’s womb was when I crawled out of it.”

I would like to see Sheehy answer the question about whether he was shot in Afghanistan or Glacier National Park. I would like to hear him address the four places where he committed plagiarism in his book. I would like to ask him about parachuting into Glacier National Park. There are just too many questions that need to be answered. Meanwhile, Sheehy plays run out the clock.

Finally, the MAGA nuts and their social media trolls will try to rewrite what happened to Sheehy last night by saying he won, but they know deep down that he did not. Anyone who knows about debating knows that Sheehy performed badly and is not ready for the U.S. Senate.

Steve Daines is the head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) and recruited Sheehy. Daines picked a lemon.

Here are some reports: Associated Press, Huff Post, NBC News, and Lee Newspapers.

ANOTHER SHEEHY SCANDAL:

It’s getting hard to keep track of Republican Tim Sheehy’s scandals and lies. Here is another one reported by The Guardian:

At a recent campaign event in Whitehall, Montana, the Republican US Senate candidate Tim Sheehy told voters that a decade ago, when he set up the aerial firefighting company through which he made his fortune, he and his wife were living “below the poverty line.

”But Sheehy’s claim about living in poverty while building his company, Bridger Aerospace, is contradicted by his own memoir.

In that book, Mudslingers, published last year, the former Navy Seal writes that when he and his wife contemplated leaving the military, in 2013, they “weren’t wealthy, but … did have resources”.

“So, we had amassed a nest egg of close to $300,000. I also had some money that my parents had been putting away for me since I was a kid. All told, we had roughly $400,000 to allocate toward building a business and establishing a new life.”

The poverty level around that time was about $19,700.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY:

Former President Jimmy Carter turns 100 today. He was the 39th President and served from 1977-1981. He is a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a submariner. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE:

U.S. Senator JD Vance of Ohio and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will face off Tuesday in the only scheduled vice presidential debate before the November election. CBS is hosting the debate, but several channels will televise it.

The debate starts at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time. For more information, click HERE

ONE MORE THING:

This is my favorite headline from yesterday:

Vaughn man sentenced for illegally breeding sheep

I know, it’s a little bit of middle-school humor, but I bet you smiled just a little.

  1. if you did not know Sheehy was Captain America before the debate he sure let you know during.

    • That’s true. His problem is he has lied so much that every time he talks people wonder if he’s lying. -JmB
