Caught My Eye…

During my travels, I made a list of things I wanted to write about when I returned, but most of those things are old news now.  Nevertheless, there’s still a lot to write about so I will try to be brief about each subject!

Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Great Falls Library
  • Cascade County Commission
  • Gianforte Won’t Debate
  • Sheehy Parachutes?
  • Trump at Arlington
  • Harris-Walz Interview
  • One More Thing

GREAT FALLS LIBRARY:

Once again it appears that the Great Falls Public Library is under attack. The Montana Free Press (MTFP) recently reported that there are talks that the city commission may take money from the library and use it for public safety.

If the commission takes money from our public library, they will never get my vote for any public safety levy. I will encourage others to vote against it, too.

Check out the complete report from the MTFP HERE.

CASCADE COUNTY COMMISSION:

I also read in the Montana Free Press (MTFP) that current Cascade County Commissioner Rae Grulkowski, who was beaten badly in a primary race by Eric Hinebauch, has announced she will run as a write-in candidate.  Grulkowski and Hinebauch are Republicans. Democrat Don Ryan is also running.

It’s funny how the Republicans will use the scorched earth method to make a point. Several of the MAGA Republicans in Cascade County lost in primaries, so I imagine they are ready to implode.

I think all that Grulkowski’s write-in campaign will do is help Ryan win, and that is fine by me.

GIANFORTE WON’T DEBATE:

I like a good debate, but it does not appear that there will be one in the Montana Governor’s race between incumbent Greg Gianforte and challenger Ryan Busse.

I guess the Gianforte campaign feels he has enough of a lead in their internal polling that they don’t want to risk him flying off the handle and punching someone.

Lee Newspapers reported the following:

In a memo, Gianforte campaign manager Jake Eaton called Busse “not a credible candidate.” As reasons for that, Eaton cited Busse not releasing his tax returns as Gianforte has done, along with critiques of Busse’s campaign strategies. Eaton also listed times Busse was critical of Republicans and the Democrat’s use of the word “fascism” to describe Gianforte’s approach to governing. “Hosting a debate with an unserious candidate, who has no credibility, who actively dodges transparency, and who makes unhinged comments comparing Republicans to Nazis and fascists, would neither be informative nor advance the public interest. The governor is prepared to debate a serious, credible Democratic candidate for governor, but unfortunately, there isn’t one,” Eaton wrote.

This is a cheap attack and silly. Busse is a credible candidate and was chosen by the Democrats to run for Montana Governor.  This may hurt Gianforte some and the Busse campaign should seize the moment.

SHEEHY PARACHUTES?

I bet the campaign team for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy is tired of answering questions about Glacier National Park.

First, Sheehy said he accidentally shot himself in the park and received a ticket for it. Then he said it did not happen. I’ve never really heard the whole story from Sheehy. Montanans don’t know what happened. (Source)

Now Sheehy has told people he parachuted into Glacier National Park as part of his Navy SEAL training.

The Daily Montanan reported that Sheehy recently said he parachuted into Glacier National Park as part of his military training in Montana — an activity a national park spokesperson said is not permitted.

The Daily Montanan requested information from the U.S. Navy about any parachute training it conducted in Glacier National Park. A Naval Special Warfare spokesperson said it trains in Montana but did not have any record of parachute training in the park.

Why does Sheehy feel the need to lie about his life? I still believe that he will lose to the incumbent, Jon Tester. Sheehy will have nobody to blame but himself.

TRUMP AT ARLINGTON:

Most people have seen the photo of former President Donald Trump at Arlington National Cemetery giving a thumbs-up while standing by a grave. His campaign team filmed his visit there.

The filming of Trump at Arlington was wrong. His team was reportedly told not to film the visit. His campaign released the video.

There’s nothing wrong with Trump visiting Arlington at the request of the families of fallen military members.

But, I think Trump used the death of the 13 military personnel killed in Afghanistan as a campaign tool. This was the third anniversary of their death and Trump supposedly never visited the graves before.

It’s all about how this could help Trump’s struggling campaign. It was shameful.

HARRIS-WALZ INTERVIEW:

I watched the CNN interview conducted by Dana Bash with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

Harris and Walz did a good job. I did not see any problems.

Since the Harris-Walz campaign is doing well, I have noticed the lewd and vile attacks have increased. It’s the same with the attacks in Montana from the MAGAs on U.S. Senator Jon Tester. I think some outside groups have employed a person or two to post bullshit all day about Tester, most of it not true.

Here are a couple of sources about the attacks on Harris: HERE and HERE

  1. Shady, a real Montanan, MAGA Montanan! Don’t we all bank in the Cayman Islands?

”Tim Sheehy made millions off government contracts. He even took a $774,300 loan from the government and never paid it back. And Sheehy did his business in the Cayman Islands, where millionaires like him go to avoid paying taxes.”

    • Well that’s a swing and a miss! BTW Swede, when are you MAGAs going to say the names of the 58,000 American troops who died in Nam? Gettin’ kinda silly with your demands. Guess you didn’t realize that war is dangerous business.

Hard to mourn all the dead all the time as you MAGAs seem to feel is necessary. Best not to let your kids join if you can’t accept the risks or results when things go bad. In the military, everyone takes their chances together. That’s why we consider them ALL to be heroes. Endlessly honoring a select thirteen is ridiculous.

BTW, this guy is flat wrong. Biden met the bodies of these brave soldiers when they came home. Enough with the unnecessary drama to aid commander bone Spurs in his bid to overthrow the government again. That’s not the best way to honor the fallen. I know many troops from GF who have died as result of this war. I mourn them all, just not in a trumpian spectacle!

      • Swede, watch the video again. The bodies had passed, the salutes were dropped, people were milling about preparing to leave, looking off in the direction of the bodies, and the most powerful man in the world who runs the world on a tight schedule checked the time. That’s kinda like smiling and giving a thumbs up over the graves of the fallen. Same disrespect. I see your point!

      • Larry, I wonder if you knew Roger Kojetin, I was friends with his younger brother Rick back in the day. I remember Rogers family had a little get together before he shipped out to Vietnam, Roger wrestled around with us younger kids and we raised hell for much of the party.
Seems like he just left when we got news he died over there. I believe you two were about the same age. Big reason I had no plans to join up.

      • No, I didn’t know him. I worked with kids my entire adult life, so I have known many kids over the years. Many of the kids that went to Iraq were my son’s friends. Same ages and they hung out together so I got to know them well. Unfortunately, a few of them committed suicide when they got back. It devastated those of us who knew them. They were some of the finest young people I have known. And I’ll just leave it at that. I worry a lot about the ones who are still suffering horrible PTSD from their tragic experiences in an unnecessary war. It’s a loss you never get over. I just pray that they can live long enough to outlive their demons.

The suicides after Nam were the same thing. Studies indicate more Nam vets died from suicide after the war than during the war. But statistics are hard to prove, because many deaths were just guys who got drunk as hell and drove off the roads, or drank themselves to death.

    • I had no problem with Trump visiting Arlington at the family’s request.
When Trump brought his campaign staff and filmed it is where it became a stunt. The other thing I disliked was Trump giving a thumbs-up by the headstone.
I won’t get into suckers and losers or Liking people who don’t get captured remarks. Trump is scum. -JmB

      • Isn’t great when you get to rely on unconfirmed conversations and unanimous sources?

The claim is unsubstantiated. Biden referenced a September 3, 2020 piece from The Atlantic when making the claim. According to the same piece, Trump canceled a 2018 stop at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery after allegedly saying it was “filled with losers.” The then-president also allegedly referred to “the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as ‘suckers’ for getting killed,” the same piece indicates.

The magazine said Trump made the remarks during a conversation with senior staff members, citing “four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion.” The magazine did not reveal the identities of the four people at any point in the piece.

      • The only unsubstantiated info I’ve seen recently is from you. I’ve come to believe that’s all MAGA has. -JmB

      • I remember when Woodward and Bernstein used unnamed sources in their Watergate reporting. It’s the norm these days and up to the reporter’s bosses to ensure they are legit. Personally, I don’t like it, but that’s the way it is. -JmB

    • There’s no source more authoritative than X, unless it is the X account of a guy who calls himself Cat Turd.

  2. Oh my God! Shady manages to insult and degrade pretty much everyone in Montana in one swell racist swoop! What a pos! Scratch anyone in Great Falls, or actually any town in Montana, and you will see native blood not too deep! Those of us who hail from here are all part native! So I take great offense when this pos insults my family and friends with a racist stereotype in an attempt at humor. I have seen far too much racism in Montana to let this slide. He is unfit to represent Montana. And if he keeps mouthing off with the racist remarks, he might just learn a hard lesson in native culture!

    • I saw this and posted it on my X account. At the end of the article there’s this:

“Char-Koosta News is working to verify the audio, and actively reaching out to the Sheehy campaign for comment.”

      Interesting. -JmB

  3. He doesn’t like guys who were captured or killed. Try as they might, his sycophants can debate that away. His record on the people in the military is clear.

  4. Jackie

Would you please block me for, oh, maybe three months? Just can’t stop myself from my habit of checking your page. Not a good way to start the day.

  5. Yikes! Turns out Shady is fishy too! Surprised? Me neither. But will the MAGA rubes care that they’re getting takin’ for a ride? Nah. We got the best marks in the country! Ask Shady!

“As Sheehy drives his company towards a financial cliff, it’s taxpayers who are left holding the bag. Sheehy’s company runs on government contracts. Yes – that means you, Montana taxpayer, pay his bills and his bonuses. Sheehy isn’t for Montana – he’s a complete tool for private equity.

I’ve made a living being able to spot the frauds and cheats of the business world. And when Sheehy tells you he’s a successful businessman, he’s hoping you won’t have the smarts to see his experience for what it really is: Someone who let his taxpayer-funded company bleed millions while he cashed out on bonuses and a multimillion-dollar salary.”

  6. Well, whatcha gonna do? Trump says attack the press, so a moron MAGA does just that and gets arrested while his fellow MAGAs want to lynch him! Go figure. Look closely at the MAGA crowd. They look exactly like those townspeople lining the streets in those movies about the French Revolution watching folks headed to the guillotine in carts! I thought the pink lady was ready to kill him herself! Trump brings out the best in people, if you can call them that! I only hope she is a childless cat lady, for I hate to think she has procreated! Best if she were the end of that genetic lineage!

    https://x.com/taureansmall/status/1829636618233287111

    • Why is this story always about cats and litter boxes? And always in the girls bathroom?

Couldn’t a student just as easily identify as a water buffalo and just go about dumping wherever they might be standing?

But no, it”s always a nice house trained cat that not only uses the litter box but heads into the girls’ to do it.

  7. This is a conspiracy theory I am starting right here:

Rae will do little but play Bad Cop in a Republican tag team.vs Ryan.

    • Kinda embarrassing though. Once you get your ass handed to you real good, Montana etiquette requires that you skulk away and stop wasting everybody’s time! But poor feeble minded MAGA Rae Rae is not from Montana. Guess that’s how they behaved back where she’s from! I don’t think the new and improved Rae Rae will be much different from the old one! At some point, you just need to collect your ass and go home while you still have one! Code of the west. (She may want to hang around for comic relief! MAGAs are great for that. Look at lil Ricky! A laff a minute)

  8. Re: Arlington Cemetery. It’s nearly imposed to capture the depravity of Trump in words, but this former administrator official nails it. Nothing more needs to be said, for nothing more can be said.

“Donald Trump and his staff knew – and were reminded of – federal regulations specifically prohibiting the misconduct their campaign engaged in at Arlington’s section 60 this week,” wrote Carroll. “But the law aside, only a gross lack of manners, decency and humility could incline a person to film a fundraising appeal over the resting places of dead men and women who cannot decline to participate in the coarse spectacle. The photo of a grinning Trump giving a jaunty thumbs-up over these patriots’ graves is an indelible image of narcissism risen to the point of sociopathy.”

“Trump sees the armed services as yet another entity to be misused for his personal benefit, damaged and then discarded just as he has with his bankrupt businesses, the evangelical Christian churches and the Republican party,” wrote Carroll, concluding, “the idea of serving others, much less giving one’s life for others, is anathema to Trump. This attitude would be a sad commentary about any man, but ought to disqualify someone seeking to serve as commander-in-chief.”

    • Trump should be disqualified, but his followers are so dumb they think he’s a god. -JmB

      • Exactly. But this will not go away. And I don’t think it should. Trump and Vance are doubling down on their claims of innocence but it just isn’t working this time. He purposely violated the sanctity of all the other dead military personnel there, and the right of their family members to mourn in peace without cameras and the public and a felonious sex offender intruding upon their privacy. Imagine being there with your deceased to share a quite moment of reflection, remembrance and prayer, and then have this buffoonish clown and his entourage giving thumbs up and smiles all around. The rules are there for a reason. What kind of person would casually violate something of the ultimate sacredness for a photo op?

        For the Zinkester and Shady.

    • Now Tubby is reportedly trying to throw the Gold Star parents under the bus, suggesting it might have been them that broke the rules to take the pictures and videos. Like Sgt. Schultz he knew nothing, NOTHING! (But somehow his campaign ended up with the video.)

That is low. Low even by Tubby standards. Looks like maybe there is no bottom with this guy.

      https://www.mediaite.com/tv/could-have-been-the-parents-trump-tries-to-shift-blame-for-campaigning-at-arlington-scandal-claims-was-a-set-up/

      • I like the Sgt Schultz comparison. Perfect.
Trump believes he is above all laws. The MAGA folks believe it. – JmB

  9. Tubby Trump’s campaign must indeed be struggling.

The other day Vance claimed Trump would not sign a nationwide abortion ban, and now Trump himself is claiming he would not only protect IVF but have the government pay for it or maybe force insurance companies.

Both statements lies of course, but still it’s telling they would be desperate enough to tell them.

    • Correct. Now Trump is in hot water over his answer about an amendment in Florida about abortion. The NYT reports:

“In an interview with NBC, Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, was asked on how he would vote on the measure known as Amendment 4, which would guarantee the right to abortion “before viability,” usually around 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Mr. Trump initially repeated his past criticism of the state’s current ban on abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. When pressed further, he stopped short of outright endorsing the proposal but said, “I am going to be voting that we need more than six weeks.”

He is all over the map and that shows he’s looking for an answer that will get him the most votes. -JmB

      • Yes but, the couch molester is even sicker than I could have imagined. He used a seventeen year old video of a private citizen, a private freakin’ citizen, to attack Kamala’s supposed lack of intellect. Who does this? Who could imagine doing this? This dude is as sick as trump.

The poor young girl was so nervous that she flubbed her response to a question during a beauty pageant. Understandable since that’s a high stress situation. She was terribly embarrassed by this event, and so traumatized that she actually considered suicide.

So what does couch boy do? He uses the video to mock the girl in an attempt to make fun of Kamala! He dredged up this video from the girl’s past without permission nor any thought of how she would feel having to relive that embarrassing moment from her past! And when asked if he would apologize, he refuses saying it was all in fun!

This is MAGA scum at its most misogynistic, hateful, cruel, and sadistic. And this is what we’d get endlessly with Trump in the White House. We’re better than this.

        https://www.mediaite.com/online/jd-vance-dunks-on-former-teen-beauty-pageant-contestant-to-mock-kamala-harris/

      • Yes, using that video was a cheap tactic. The vile posts and the hate being spread is beyond belief. It all started with Trump. -JmB

      • I think what scares me most about these guys is their total, complete lack of basic human compassion and common decency. Makes one wonder what they’re actually capable of. I try not to think about it, for history shows us what happens when they take power.
