PRIMARY ELECTION DAY:

Don’t forget that (Tomorrow) Tuesday, June 4, is primary election day in Montana. This is a chance for “we the people” to have our say.

UPSIDE DOWN FLAG:

I happened to see a few upside-down American flags being displayed on social media after the verdict that found former President Trump guilty of 34 felony counts in the New York hush money trial.

The Associated Press (AP) reported that at least one such flag was spotted Friday outside Trump Tower in New York City as the Republican former president spoke about the trial. Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump, the former president’s daughter-in-law, and Donald Trump Jr., his eldest son, have been sharing images of inverted flags online, as did Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a longtime ally.

Of course, we heard about the upside-down American flag gaining wide attention recently after revelations that it was flown outside the Alexandria, Virginia, home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol by Trump supporters seeking to halt the certification of the 2020 presidential election results.

The AP says the upside-down flag, once a signal of distress for sailors, has come to represent the “Stop the Steal” movement, which falsely claims the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Trump for Democrat Joe Biden.

As for me, I would never fly my flag or post an image of an American flag upside down to support a movement. I think it shows the ignorance of those who do. It’s disrespectful. They have the right to do this, but it shows a lot about the character of those who do.

The MAGA folks are very good at playing the victim. Many are just followers and don’t understand what they are following. They think the deep state is against them and that everything that does not turn out their way is because it’s a conspiracy against them.  

Flag Day is coming up on June 14. We should treat our flag with respect.

  1. I think it’s a nice quiet comment like kneeling when the Star Spangled Banner is playing.

    • Ah yes the god old days of kneeling for the anthem. When the right wingers of the nation exhibited such understanding and quiet acceptance of the 1st Amendment rights of others. For instance when Pence did NOT storm out of a football game and said nothing at all about it so it was a total non-event. Or like how no righty uttered a peep when BLM flew the flag upside down.

      • Pence, BLM flag…didn’t know those fun facts. What TV news should I be watching?

  2. Are you too young to remember when Vietnam Veterans Against the War (John Kerry) flew the flag upside-down after taking over the Statute of Liberty?

    • I remember it. Kerry probably lost the presidential election because of his protests during that time.
      Like I said, I would not do it. I don’t think too highly of those who do.

  3. Flying our flag upside down like that for protest is little different from burning the flag in the street for protest. Yes the 1st Amendment gives you the right, but if you do it you’re a disrespectful unpatriotic clown..
