Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Greetings! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Memorial Day
  • NonStop Local Illegal Immigrants
  • Daines & Native Americans
  • Great Falls Growth Policy
  • Reading Assignments

MEMORIAL DAY:

I happened to catch a few folks posting or saying “Happy Memorial Day” on Monday and it really pisses me off.

I heard the anchor for MTN News at noon say “Happy Memorial Day” and I heard a reporter for MTN News at 5:30 in Great Falls say “Happy Memorial Day.” Not to be outdone, the Kansas City Star sent an email saying “Happy Memorial Day.”

You can search for “Happy Memorial Day” on X and Facebook and find many entries from dumbasses across the globe.

Memorial Day is a day we recognize those who gave their lives while serving in the military. So Memorial Day is not a “happy” day for them or for their families.

When I was in the Air Force, two of my dorm mates died in a helicopter crash at Whiteman AFB in Missouri while providing security for a nuclear missile convoy.  Two other members of my group died that day along with two pilots.

If people really care about veterans, they will take the time to know the difference between Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Armed Forces Day.

NONSTOP LOCAL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS:

NonStop Local ABC/Fox has been following the story of Governor Greg Gianforte who released an ad within the past week saying that the Biden administration is flying illegal immigrants into the state of Montana.

But has that really happened?

The ad has been removed according to NonStop Local.

NonStop Local has contacted several people, including the Gianforte campaign, Flathead County Sheriff Brian Hino, Flathead County Commissioner Randy Brodehl, and Congressman Ryan Zinke. They all seemed to dodge the question about illegal immigrants in Flathead Valley.

That makes me think they are lying.

Check out the report from NonStop Local HERE.

DAINES & NATIVE AMERICANS:

Here in Montana, we all realize that Republican U.S. Senator Steve Daines does not like people who are different looking than him, like Native Americans, Blacks, and Hispanics.

Is Steve Daines a racist?

Reuters recently reported that Daines said he will oppose President Joe Biden’s pick who would have become the first Native American to serve as a federal district court judge in his home state, likely dooming her nomination. A spokesperson for Daines late Wednesday said he has decided not to return a “blue slip” that would allow Danna Jackson, the tribal attorney for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, to be considered by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

It’s bullshit that Republican Daines is even consulted by Democrat Biden about this pick. The pick should be between Biden and U.S. Senator Jon Tester. That’s what having the majority in the Senate and a Democrat in the White House gives you.

GREAT FALLS GROWTH POLICY:

I wrote about this issue before. The Electric reported that the city allocated $300,000 for the growth policy and that funding is being used to pay for the consultant, according to staff. The city also expects to receive $30,000 from the Montana Reinvestment Plan Act and GFPS contributed $50,000 toward the growth policy, according to the staff report. So, they awarded $371,184.

Then they formed a committee, According to The Electric:

The mayor and each city commissioner provided up to five recommendations for each interest area, ranked in order of preference, according to staff, who then assigned a numerical value to each recommendation, which resulted in the following recommendations for committee membership:

  • Rick Tryon, city commissioner, selected by the commission
  • Heather Hoyer, GFPS superintendent, selected by GFPS
  • Brett Doney, Great Falls Development Alliance director, selected by GFFA
  • A Malmstrom Air Force Base representative who has not yet been selected
  • Katie Hanning, representing housing and development
  • Kris Cron, Mike Hallahan and Brian Kaufman, representing business and industry
  • Tom Heisler, representing agriculture and environment
  • Abigail Hill, representing public health and medical
  • Stephanie Erdmann, representing higher education and adult training
  • Spencer Woith, Carol Bronson and Wayne Klind as the citizen members

That $300k will buy great coffee and donuts for all the meetings.

  1. Turned my ballot in today, my Republican ballot. Hopefully we can send a message to the MAGAs that they had a good run, but they’ve been found out for being what they are. Nuts! And loonies! Obscurity will look good on them!

    • BTW, I voted for Denny. I think he has the best shot at defeating Miss Kitty Litter. I’m hoping there’s still enough old time Montanans around who still remember what a real old school Republican was like compared to a MAGA nutjob who honestly believes that our schools provide litter boxes for students who identify as cats and was somehow elected as superintendent of schools! Like LBGQT, Elsie has her own set of letters which people use to refer to her. WTF?, or sometimes just SCC, which is short for She Cray Cray!

And of course I also voted for Mr. Hinebaugh for the same above reason. Rae Rae muy Cray Cray!

Essentially, I just De-MAGAfied my ballot………AND IT WAS A BLAST!

  2. Blue Slip, not written in stone. When Biden was chair of the judicial committee one judge got thru the committee & was approved by the senate. One made it to committee hearings but failed to be recommended.

    • Supposedly Daines never met with Jackson face to face,
which proves to me he is a chickenshit. Jackson could be the first Native American federal judge in Montana.
It’s a shame that having the majority in the senate does not mean as much as it once did. Thanks, JmB

  3. Kind of ironic that included in today’s topics are our “growth policy” and also the article from the New York Times about the unregulated out-of-control growth in Bozeman. If we had some folks with some real foresight running this community, they would realize that growth is inevitable. Just let it happen. No need to encourage the Doney type folks to go looking for every hair brained scheme, car wash and casino out there. The only thing they need to do is sit back and devise some regulation so we don’t end up like Bozeman. Preparation is the key. It won’t be too long before we’re “discovered “. Many of those two hundred and seventy million Americans out there are actively looking for some place to go. Between the billionaires and the Hutterites and their giant slaughter plants, there won’t be much left for us average folks. And I doubt I’ll be a Hutterite or billionaire any time soon!

  4. Back when America was great it was “Merry Decoration Day”. Another day of remembrance coopted for crass commercialism by the godless forces of capitalism and the secular humanists who promote it.

  5. I’m proud to consider myself one of the scum Trump wished “Happy Memorial Day.”

    • I saw his post. Trump always makes everything about him. What an asshole. Thanks, JmB
