Caught My Eye…

Happy Friday! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • A Reckoning is Coming
  • Statewide Candidates Campaign Reports
  • Noem Blames Fake News
  • One More Thing

A RECKONING IS COMING:

Great Falls City Commissioner Rick Tryon loves the spotlight and he posts some idiotic things on his personal Facebook page, like this:

“I barely recognize this America as the one I grew up in. We’ve lost our way. A Reckoning is coming.”

Some people say that a day of reckoning is the time when one is called to account for one’s actions, to pay one’s debts, or to fulfill one’s promises or obligations. (Source)

I understand that Commissioner Tryon is sensitive to disagreements. He just posted a memo on Facebook that shows how sensitive he is when people disagree with him. Whimp.

As for the “Reckoning,” the commissioner may not like what is coming. He and his MAGA friends may be flushed down the toilet once and for all.

STATEWIDE CANDIDATES CAMPAIGN REPORTS:

The Daily Montanan has a report posted about the fundraising of the statewide candidates in Montana:

With election season in full swing, candidates must report their fundraising and expenditures nearly every month starting in April and up through November’s election. The most recent filings were due April 20 and cover the period of March 16 through April 15 for most candidates.
Absentee ballots are set to go out next Friday for the primary; the candidates will have to file another campaign finance report by May 20, which will provide further insight into where they stand financially about two weeks before the primary election.

Check out the finance reports HERE.

NOEM BLAMES FAKE NEWS:

The South Dakota Searchlight is reporting South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s fatal shootings of a dog and goat are being blamed on “Fake news,” according to her.

Noem, a Republican, appeared Wednesday night on Fox News with anchor Sean Hannity for her first interview since the story broke last week. In his introduction, Hannity said Noem “is being attacked by both Republicans and Democrats, dog lovers and goat lovers.”

Noem replied, “Well, Sean, you know how the fake news works. They leave out some or most of the facts of a story. They put the worst spin on it, and that’s what’s happened in this case.”

It’s over for Noem. Pack it up.

ONE MORE THING:

Here are the lyrics that are stuck in my head this week…

Movin’ on,
From town to town.
I’m alone,
On my own.
All my life,
When I been movin’
Don’t know why,
Just gotta go.

  1. Funny but true.

7 requirements to be Trump’s vice president

    1. All candidates’ souls must have fully vacated their bodies, along with all dignity, morals and sense of self-worth.
    2. The ability to always agree with Trump is essential. If Trump says “2+2 = 5,” the candidates must be willing to accept that as fact and order the imprisonment of any and all math teachers who disagree.
    3. Logical consistency is not considered an asset, and the candidates must be ready and willing to loudly yell things that are transparently false and, often, make no sense whatsoever.
    4. An ideal candidate must be comfortable with potentially being hanged by an angry mob.
    5. Candidates who have not murdered dogs are preferred. (Sorry, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem.)
    6. The candidates must be willing to listen to Donald Trump Jr.’s podcast and engage in at least one conversation per month with Eric Trump without laughing.
    7. And finally, all candidates must be not only willing but excited to have every ounce of their decency and credibility vaporized in service to a man who wouldn’t spit on them if they were on fire.
  2. I remember Jenni Dodd was Cher to Rick’s Sonny in the bars once upon a time. I suspect Rick had something to do with her getting on the committee. Same with Rosales.

  3. In other news of mild interest, the Great Falls commission’s “Public Safety Advisory Committee” held its first meeting Wednesday evening.

Things started out well with everyone showing up except Senator Wendy McKamey. A lonely name card and empty chair filled in for her. They elected a chairperson (Sandra Guynn). Someone was selected as vice chair, maybe Aaron Weissman.

Established that a quorum would be six members. Decided they would meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month until September. Talked about whether or not they could participate remotely, possibly deciding maybe via phone – but anyone who joined that way would have to commit to the entire meeting.

Heard a short presentation from the City Attorney which was the same as we all heard during the levy sales effort, and also from the new judge. Talked about what kind of crimes are prosecuted in City court.

And probably more but I snoozed out.

We are well down the road to another levy ask!

  4. This just in: Matt Rosendale voted “Nay” once again. This time on a motion to send a flawed mining bill back to committee.

HR 2925 would have allowed mining exploration and activities including road building on all Federal lands without oversight, eliminating the requirement of even any indication there were actual mineral deposits of value there. That includes on any existing claims that were made in wilderness areas prior to 1984 (20 year deadline after the Wilderness Act).

Matt Rosendale wants mining (or more likely phony hobby mine land grabbing) in YOUR Bob Marshall, Lincoln Scapegoat, Gates of the Mountains, Mission Mountains, Anaconda Pintler, etc.

Good riddance to this totally out-of-touch Maryland carpetbagger. Too bad it can’t be sooner.

Zinke joined Matt in NAY, indicating he too is in favor of mining wildernesses.

    • I have always believed that once we allow mining in these pristine areas, you can’t make it whole again. It just won’t be the same. We only have one earth.
Thanks for the information. – JmB

  5. Hasn’t Tryon found it necessary to write – numerous times – that Tryon doesn’t care what other people write/say? Apparently somebody got under his skin, and Tryon was wrong.
