Welcome! Here are the topics that caught my attention for today’s column:
- Alejandro Mayorkas
- The Southern Border
- Jennifer Crumbley
- One More Thing
ALEJANDRO MAYORKAS:
The Republican leadership in the U.S. House was once again embarrassed when they failed Tuesday to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
The Associated Press (AP) reported that the stunning roll call fell just a single vote short of impeaching Mayorkas, stalling the Republicans’ drive to punish the Biden administration over its handling of the U.S.-Mexico border.

It would be great if the House (and the Senate) concentrated on our nation’s problems instead of playing silly political games.
THE SOUTHERN BORDER:
If you are a politician and need some publicity, go to the southern border. There you can give a short speech and the national media and state media will cover it.
Montana Governor Greg Gianforte went to the southern border recently to show support for Texas Governor Greg Abbott. There were about 14 governors in attendance. Meth and fentanyl were repeated in almost every speech, along with the words, “open border.”
Yes, there’s a problem at the southern border, but these governors are there to hammer President Biden and help elect Donald Trump. We already know that Trump does not want a solution to this problem. He wants to use it as a campaign issue.
Meanwhile, 60 Minutes did a segment about the southern border that was eye-opening. The segment reported about a growing number of Chinese nationals trying to escape repressive politics and a bleak economy heading to the U.S. They’re turning to a gap at the southern border with Mexico as a way to get in.
Watch it HERE.
JENNIFER CRUMBLEY:
The Associated Press (AP) and other sources reported that a Michigan jury convicted a school shooter’s mother of involuntary manslaughter Tuesday in the killings of four students in 2021, making her the first parent in the U.S. to be held responsible for a child carrying out a mass school attack. Prosecutors say Jennifer Crumbley had a duty under state law to prevent her son, who was 15 at the time, from harming others. She was accused of failing to secure a gun and ammunition at home and failing to get help to support Ethan Crumbley’s mental health.
Her son pleaded guilty and is serving a life sentence. The father, James Crumbley, faces trial in March.
This is the right decision. Maybe this decision will prevent other mass shootings.
ONE MORE THING:
Rest in Peace, Toby Keith. On Tuesday, it was announced that country star Toby Keith had died at age 62. (Source)
I have several Toby Keith songs in my playlist, including “I Love This Bar,” “How Do You Like Me Now,” and “As Good as I Once Was.”
The anthem, “How Do You Like Me Now” was for those who made it, came back home, and stuck their success in the faces of those who doubted them. Great song and video.

I saw this in your comment on the border, “There were about 14 governors in attendance. Meth and fentanyl were repeated in almost every speech…”
I had to do a double-take, because my first read had it, “Meth and fentanyl were…reported ”
Are you sure your version was the correct one?
Haha. Maybe not! Thanks, JmB
Also embarrassing for Republican House leadership yesterday was the failure of their standalone Israel aid bill. Stupid to have even called it, as it was a “suspend the rules” vote that would have required 2/3 yea.
Can’t pass bills in the Senate they themselves demanded and negotiated, can’t pass even their own bills in the House, and still haven’t been able to pass a number of important budget bills so are limping along on the umpteenth CR to keep the government open – this Republican party is quite the marvel.
