Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Greetings! Here are the topics for today’s column:

  • Repeal Resolution 23-62
  • Honesty and Ethics Poll
  • Hunter High
  • Taylor & Football
  • One More Thing

REPEAL RESOLUTION 23-62:

I saw a press release from Jeni Dodd who is letting folks know there is a “Sign the Petition for Referendum to Repeal Resolution 23-62” available to sign at Liberty Hall, 721 10th Ave S. (across 8th St S from Arbys).

In case you were wondering about Resolution 23-62, according to Dodd:

Cascade County Commissioners Briggs and Larson passed the Resolution 23-62 to remove election duties from the Clerk/Recorder, thereby negating the will of the voters who voted for a combined Clerk/Recorder AND ELECTION ADMINISTRATOR in November 2022.

I guess if enough people are mad about the actions of Briggs and Larson, then they will sign it. I’m not sure how much weight it will carry.

You can find out the date and time that the petition will be available HERE.

HONESTY AND ETHICS POLL:

Gallup is reporting that Americans’ ratings of nearly all 23 professions measured in Gallup’s 2023 Honesty and Ethics poll are lower than they have been in recent years.

Gallup says Nurses remain the most trusted profession, with 78% of U.S. adults currently believing nurses have high honesty and ethical standards. However, that is down seven percentage points from 2019 and 11 points from its peak in 2020. At the other end of the spectrum, members of Congress, senators, car salespeople, and advertising practitioners are viewed as the least ethical, with ratings in the single digits that have worsened or remained flat.

It’s getting pretty bad when we lack trust in many professions.

Check out the ratings HERE.

HUNTER HIGH:

The Daily Mail is reporting that First Lady Jill Biden’s advisors have been mocked on social media for arranging for her to speak at an event in Utah, at a school named Hunter High. The first lady on Tuesday visited West Valley City, where she met high school students and talked to teachers.

I wonder if anyone on the First Lady’s staff thought about the name, “Hunter High?”

According to the Daily Mail, the First Lady’s stepson, 53-year-old Hunter Biden, struggled throughout much of his adult life with drug addiction. He has been clean since 2019, when he married South African documentary maker Melissa Cohen, but is currently having his past behavior pored over by Republicans.

Hunter High was probably not the best place to hold an event for any of the Bidens…

TAYLOR & FOOTBALL:

I have been a fan of Taylor Swift’s music for many years. Yes, I have a Taylor playlist on Apple Music – so take that.

On the other hand, I have been a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs since I was born – and that was a long time ago – and long before Taylor.

I see that people are getting their panties in a bunch over Taylor Swift being seen at Chiefs games to cheer on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. She is very well-known around the world so when she attends an event, she is noticed. Her fans notice it, too. The NFL and the networks covering the game know that Swift packs a lot of clout with what she wears and what she attends. She is a role model for many.

For me, it is fun to see her enjoying the game with family and friends. That’s the great thing about football – it brings friends and families together to cheer on their team – whether you are at Arrowhead Stadium or in my family room.

Thanks to Taylor for making the game more enjoyable, Go Chiefs!

ONE MORE THING:

Here are the lyrics that are stuck in my head this week…

Well, I took a walk around the world to ease my troubled mind
I left my body lying somewhere in the sands of time
But I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon
I feel there’s nothing I can do, yeah

I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon
After all I knew, it had to be something to do with you
I really don’t mind what happens now and then
As long as you’ll be my friend at the end

If I go crazy, then will you still call me Superman?
If I’m alive and well, will you be there and holding my hand?
I’ll keep you by my side with my superhuman might
Kryptonite

  1. I assume  you have seen the notice that a petition is being circulated to rescind the resolution removing election administration from the Clerk & Recorder’s job duties. Ruth 414 5th St N Great Falls MT   59401 (406)315-3265

  2. I never paid any attention to Taylor Swift one way or the other until she started tweaking wingnuts so bad they have to whine about her publicly every single week after football. Now I am a big fan, even though I still don’t know a single song. Put her on TV even more NFL and TV networks!

Hoping for some commercials featuring Taylor in the Super Bowl, too.

  3. Remember Tony Romo and Jessica Simson? It’s all fun and games now but soon there will songs written and feelings broken.
