Caught My Eye…

It’s Friday! Here are today’s topics:

  • The GAZA Act
  • Judge Jerry Lynch
  • The Warship
  • World Series
  • Great Googly Moogly
  • One More Thing

THE GAZA ACT:

In his newsletter, U.S. Senator Steve Daines said that he introduced the “Guaranteeing Aggressors Zero Admission Act,” or the “GAZA Act,” which prevents the Biden administration from granting visas to holders of Palestinian Authority passports. Additionally, the bill would prevent the Department of Homeland Security from granting those individuals entry to the U.S. through the agency’s parole program.

I feel safer already. Wait…

NBC News is reporting:

Amid the Gaza conflict, Republicans in Congress and on the presidential campaign trail are advocating for a ban on any Palestinian refugees’ coming to the U.S. — but already very few Palestinians are admitted, and the Biden administration has no plans to change the status quo.
Out of more than 60,000 total refugees resettled in the U.S. in fiscal year 2023, 56 Palestinians were admitted. In the past 10 years, fewer than 600 Palestinians in all have come to the U.S. as refugees, according to the State Department.

In case you missed the key part, “Out of more than 60,000 total refugees resettled in the U.S. in fiscal year 2023, 56 Palestinians were admitted.”

Introducing bills like the “GAZA Act” is a waste of time and it’s done to get attention.

It would be nice in times like these for politicians to stop trying to score political points and bring something of substance to the table.

JUDGE JERRY LYNCH:

Judge Jerry Lynch is running for Chief Justice of the Montana Supreme Court, and a reader pointed out an interesting issue with Lynch’s website.

Got an email from a Judge Jerry Lynch who says he is running for Chief Justice of the MT Supreme Court.
His website doesn’t say much about him but the part about it I do like is that the browser tab, where it shows the site’s HTML page title, says “Judge Jerry Lunch”.
I’m automatically in favor of any lunch.

Check out a screenshot of Lynch’s website HERE.

You can visit his website HERE.

THE WARSHIP:

Raw Story is reporting that U.S. Representative Ryan Zinke (R-MT-01), whose political identity is closely associated with his background as a Navy SEAL, recently extended birthday wishes to the U.S. Navy on social media – using what appears to be an image of an Indonesian warship. This LINK may be behind a paywall.

Of course, the story was quickly picked up by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee HERE.

I was in the Air Force, so my expertise is with planes and missiles, not warships.

WORLD SERIES:

Game 1 of the 2023 World Series is tonight (Friday), and I doubt many people had the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks as the last two teams.

I don’t think I can name any players on either team. Supposedly, the Rangers are favored to win the title.

The good news is that all the games are on Fox, so we won’t have to search for the channel like we did for the other postseason games. It looks like the games start around 6:00 p.m. Mountain time.

I really like to listen to baseball games on the radio. If the team calling the game is decent, they will paint a nice picture for you through the radio broadcast. I have a Sirius/XM subscription, so I listen to a lot of sports on the satellite radio.

The best football announcer on the radio is Kevin Harlan, who calls games for Westwood One and Monday Night Football.

GREAT GOOGLY MOOGLY:

You have probably read the words “Great Googly Moogly” on this website several times over the years. It comes from a Snickers commercial, and I use the phrase to tell readers that I am amazed at something – usually something bad or crazy.

Recently, Andy Reid, who is the head coach of my Kansas City Chiefs did another version of the commercial.

Watch it HERE.

ONE MORE THING:

It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for something you are not.– Andre Gide

  1. What a sad pathetic tiny little shriveled-parts mini-trump of a man Daines is. He’s the type of guy that comes across a bar fight in progress in which two huge guys are beating the crap out of a small guy lying helpless on the ground, and Daines waiting for an opening, springs into action and runs in and gives the little guy a resounding kick to the head! And then returns to the bar to proudly regale his fellow small-part MAGAs with the heroic details of his bar “fight.” That’s Stevie’s own personal code of the west.

But that ain’t the Montana way. Nor is it part of our culture or values. In Montana, cowards aren’t generally held in high esteem. And for Daines to introduce this bill is a supreme embarrassment to our state for it reflects badly on all if us.

Gaza is a strip of land roughly the size of Great Falls containing 2.3 million people, half of which are children. They are forced to live in the world’s largest open air prison. They have the largest military in the world, the U.S., just of their coast ready to pounce. They have Israel, the fourth largest military in the world obliterating their few remaining buildings with daily bombings. They have NO place to flee. Israel, after having stolen all the resources that once belonged to the Palestinians, have cut off all power, food, fuel and water. They are committing a slow genocide. And the entire world knows it. Thus, there are hundreds of thousands of protesters worldwide who are horrified and repulsed by what’s happening to the Palestinians.

And yet Daines introduces a nonsensical bill to give them a kick to the head when they’re down. By God he’s a coward that even trump could be proud! I’m sure he probably squealed with delight like a small child when some moron on his staff presented him with an acronym for Gaza. I’m sure he figured he’d be elevated in the pantheon of MAGA legends for having come up with such a witty racist insult. I’m sure giggled with delight each time he saw it in print. But as was said in The Princess Bride, I don’t think that means what he thinks it means. It simply means he’s an idiot, a giggly squealing pathetic childlike MAGA idiot.

  2. Wonder why Daines did not include holders of Russian passports in his zero aggressors act. I’ve often seen it written that the Republicans are “the party of Putin” and Daines’ kid gloves treatment of those sggressors seems to prove it.

Collective punishment. That’s a revered American value, Steve. Real Christian, too.
