Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Hello friends! Today is Tuesday, September 12, 2023, and here are some of the topics I am providing commentary about today:

  • Top Paid Officials
  • Vaccinations
  • Congress
  • Monday Night Football

TOP PAID OFFICIALS:

The Electric has a story about the top-paid public officials in Great Falls, Some of the salaries are approaching $200k.

It appears that Great Falls International Airport director John Faulkner is at the top of the list, making $191,993.15. Great Falls City Manager Greg Doyon is making $190,142, with Great Falls Public Schools Superintendent Tom Moore making $175,000.

The county attorney and county sheriff are making $148,872 and $103,113.46, respectively.

I don’t have a beef about these salaries. These people have a lot of responsibilities and deserve to be compensated fairly. To attract the best and brightest, we need to provide adequate pay.

Check out the story from The Electric HERE.

VACCINATIONS:

The following was taken from a report published by WalletHub:

With vaccines preventing 4 to 5 million deaths worldwide per year according to the WHO, the personal-finance website WalletHub released its report on 2023’s States that Vaccinate the Most, as well as expert commentary. In order to find out which states vaccinate most, WalletHub analyzed the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 16 key metrics, ranging from the share of vaccinated children to the share of people without health insurance to the flu vaccination rate among adults.

Montana comes in at 30. South Dakota is ranked 19. Wyoming is 47, while Texas is 45.

Check out the report HERE.

By the way, I’ll be getting my flu shot later this month.

CONGRESS:

The U.S. House and U.S. Senate are back from recess. They need to fund the government before October 1. This seems to be an annual event of one side against the other in the funding battle. It is more of a circus than anything.

A headline from The Hill kind of says it all:

Hard-line House Republicans itching for shutdown, impeachment fights

Toward the end of the article, Montana’s own U.S. Representative, Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.), gets some ink.

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL:

It was the first Monday Night Football game of the new season and, of course, I was watching it.

The new team doing the pregame (Monday Night Countdown) was all pretty bad. Several people took to social media to complain and asked to bring back Suzy Kolber, who was released by ESPN after 27 years. The new host, Scott Van Pelt, has the personality of a wet mop.

As for the game, it was the Bills against the Jets. This was the first game for Aaron Rodgers as a member of the New York Jets. He lasted four plays before he was injured. Some reports are saying he tore his Achilles tendon. If so, he could be out for a year. He’s 39 years old, so it may take him some time to heal.

As for the game, the Jets won in overtime with a punt return for a touchdown.

Next week there will be two Monday Night Football games. The Saints and Panthers play at 5:15 (MDT) and the Browns and Steelers play at 6:15 (MDT).
