The Wednesday Read

Hello, friends! Today is Wednesday, August 16, 2023, and here are the topics I am providing commentary about today:

  • MT AG Austin Knudsen
  • Carville & Tester
  • Fan Mail

MT AG AUSTIN KNUDSEN:

The Montana Free Press (MTFP) is reporting that Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen has accused one of the state’s most prominent abortion providers of falsifying records and “flagrantly” violating state law by withholding required reports about sexual assault against minors and statutory rape, suggesting that similar alleged inaction by the organization “could be happening with human trafficking victims.”

The MTFP also reported that the first-term Republican attorney general’s comments in a July 31 radio interview echo a decade-old and recently resurfaced conspiracy theory suggesting that the national Planned Parenthood organization abets human trafficking. The interview was recirculated Monday by the news website Jezebel.

Knudsen received a lot of press for promoting the conspiracy theory, but I think that is what he wanted. He’s probably a little hurt that he was not picked to run for U.S. Senate, and that two other statewide elected Republicans (Arntzen & Downing) were going to be getting more press than him when they announced they might run for U.S. House.

A man has to stay relevant.

Check out the MTFP article HERE.

CARVILLE & TESTER:

Democratic strategist James Carville has been doing some fundraising for U.S. Senator Jon Tester on his X account (formerly Twitter). Here is his message that is on Jon Tester’s campaign account:

James Carville here. I’m hopping on Jon’s account with a quick message: This race is NUTS!!
I call it like it is–without Jon Tester in the Senate, Democrats can kiss their majority goodbye! We can’t afford to fall behind in a race as big as this one, so chip in now.

Carville is a smart man when it comes to politics. He can bring donations in from far and wide. The one quote that I will always remember from him is one that he offered when Bill Clinton was accused by several women of sexual assault or sexual misconduct:

Drag a hundred-dollar bill through a trailer park, you never know what you’ll find. -James Carville

I can do a good impression of Carville saying that. At least I think it’s good…

FAN MAIL:

Every once in a while I receive a message from one of my MAGA friends. I still have a few MAGA friends who read my columns or Tweets. Many have blocked me. The other day after posting some story and commenting about U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy I received this message via direct mail in X (formerly Twitter):

“Dirt” on Sheehy? Sheesh Mike…these stories are a joke…what happened to you supporting veterans?

I’ll keep the person’s name out of the discussion, but I thought I would respond.

When I post a negative story about someone, if there are responses from that person I try to include it. I don’t always do it. Maybe the stories are a “joke” to people who have blinders on about Sheehy, but the fact is that Team Sheehy has screwed up the most important part of a campaign and that is the intro phase. His campaign ads are growing old and have run their course. Right now, I don’t think he can beat Matt Rosendale if Rosendale decides to run.

So, with all the negative things coming out about Sheehy, I can understand how some of his supporters are ultra-sensitive.

As for the part about me supporting veterans, I would still like to see veterans elected to the U.S. House and U.S. Senate. I seldom say who I will or have voted for, but if they are a veteran, I take that into consideration.

I provide independent commentary. Everyone is fair game. It has been that way since I started this blog in 2005.

  1. The death cult is upset. If they don’t perform up to the level expected of them from their polluting industry sugar daddies, they could lose their jobs and have to actually work for a living. Pimping out your state and the future of its children is a much easier line of work than actual work. These fella’s are about as sleazy as it gets. And they’re worried.

    • The claim by Emily Flower the dopey spokesperson for Austie is priceless: “Montanans can’t be blamed for changing the climate”. Hey Doperson – everyone everywhere is responsible. Even Montanans. Especially Montanans burning fossil fuels in mass quantities.

Reminds me a of a troll-like person who confronted a speaker at a GF city commission meeting a few years back claiming something like, “It’s ridiculous to think CO2 from Great Falls might affect Glacier Park!” Yeah right, and all the smoke we breathe every summer, that doesn’t float here from somewhere else, either. Just magically appears.

    • It’s pretty nasty the way these young people have been treated. -JmB

      • I can imagine the threats they will get from the MAGAs. They don’t fully appreciate what they’ve accomplished being so young. But I hope they can handle what’s coming their way. They don’t know it yet but they will go down in Montana history just like the folks in the ‘72 Con Con. They are true heroes. Montana produces such people when we need them most.
