Here are some of the topics that caught my attention for today’s column:
- Reminder
- Election Day
- Rosendale & PRIDE
- Drag Show Ban
- Trump Too Small
- NFL Sunday Ticket
REMINDER:
Today is June 6. The 79th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion. Thank you to all who served and to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. We will never forget. (More)
ELECTION DAY:
Today is Election Day for the Great Falls Public Library levy. If all goes as well as the last election, we may find out tomorrow or Thursday if the levy passes.
I am proud to announce that I voted for the Great Falls Public Library levy! I dropped my ballot off at the Cascade County Elections Department on Monday. In the last election (School) the ballot box had been moved from just inside the entrance of the courthouse annex to inside the elections office (across the room). Yesterday, it was in a different location in the same room.
I did help a few people walking the halls of the annex holding their ballot and looking lost find the elections office.
As I have said, there is a lot of misinformation being spread about the levy. If this levy passes, the extra tax on a $100k home will be about $20 per year. That’s about the cost of one hardcover book.

ROSENDALE & PRIDE:
Republican U.S. Representative Matt Rosendale (MT-02) sent a letter to VA Undersecretary for Health Dr. Shereef Elnahal demanding answers on the Department’s promotion of the Missoula PRIDE Parade.
In his press release, Rosendale said:
“This is yet another example of the VA promoting woke identity politics that do nothing to help veterans,” said Rep. Rosendale. “It bewilders me that the Department finds it appropriate to allow for the promotion of events that have nothing to do with the mission of the VA while willfully neglecting the Department’s core function – providing healthcare to veterans. I believe the VA’s resources would be better spent actually caring for our veterans. I know that our veterans in Montana feel the same way.”
Further down in his press release, Rosendale goes back to the very old and tired MAGA talking points about Montana veterans being denied care “because of the left’s obsession with mask mandates.”
I wonder if Rosendale realizes that there are LGBTQ folks who are veterans, and some serve in the military. As for the mask mandates, that tune is getting old. I will listen to medical professionals when it comes to masks, rather than some dumbass, like Rosendale.
DRAG SHOW BAN:
This is a little old but worth mentioning.
Reuters is reporting that a federal judge has ruled that Tennessee’s law restricting drag performances in public or where children were present was unconstitutional, striking a blow to efforts in U.S. states to regulate LGBTQ conduct.
I predicted that Montana’s restrictions on drag shows would be found to be unconstitutional. I expect the law will be thrown out rather quickly. The time this past legislature wasted on silly issues like drag shows is incredible. Now they will use valuable taxpayer money to try and defend these silly laws in court.

TRUMP TOO SMALL:
The United States Supreme Court announced Monday it will hear a case in which a man tried to trademark a phrase mocking former President Donald Trump as “too small.”
The Associated Press (AP) reports that the issue arose from a 2016 exchange during a Republican Presidential debate:
The phrase is a reference to a memorable exchange Trump had during the 2016 presidential campaign with Florida senator and GOP presidential rival Marco Rubio.
Rubio began the verbal jousting when he told supporters at a rally that Trump was always calling him “little Marco” but that Trump — who says he is 6-feet-3-inches tall — has disproportionately small hands. “Have you seen his hands? … And you know what they say about men with small hands,” Rubio said. “You can’t trust them.”
Trump then brought up the comment at a televised debate on March 3, 2016.
“Look at those hands. Are they small hands? And he referred to my hands — if they’re small, something else must be small. I guarantee you there’s no problem. I guarantee you,” he said.

NFL SUNDAY TICKET:
The NFL Sunday Ticket package has changed. DirecTV had it for years and I was a subscriber for many of those years. DirecTV had a monthly payment plan, so it was not so hard on your wallet.
Now, YouTube TV has the rights to NFL Sunday Ticket. There are no payment plans. The best they have to offer is $100 off the packages if you subscribe by June 6 (today). It looks like YouTube Sunday Ticket will be about $100 more per season than DirecTV.
I may try to get NFL Redzone on another streaming service. That is a great channel that shows all the touchdowns from all the teams on Sundays.
At this time, I doubt I will subscribe to YouTube TV. My team, the Kansas City Chiefs, will be in six primetime games this upcoming season, so I will get to see them play a lot. Maybe when we get closer to the season, YouTube TV will realize that a payment plan will attract more customers.

Dating back to ’95, GOP Speakers have been –
Gingrich – corrupt and spiteful
Hastert – morally bankrupt
Boehner – thick as a brick
Ryan – ideologue with an agenda that got him several knives in the back
McCarthy – makes Boehner look smart and Gingrich honest
Who’s next? Surely they’ve been considering George Santos!!

Did you forget your last name?
Oops! My autocorrect corrected me! I’ll be among the first to succumb to AI I’m afraid.
It bewilders me that Republican politicians like Rosendale waste so much of their time (and our money) trying to ride herd on the entire country for any sniff of the wokeness they imagine lurks behind every bush, instead of doing what we sent them to do and pay them to do, craft and negotiate and pass legislation to help people. Particularly in the case of career done-nothings like Rosendale.
As for Trump and his hands, I always thought the moderators of that debate missed a golden opportunity by not following up, playing dumb, and calling him out to explain to the watching world exactly what he was going on about in what was essentially a job interview for the job of president of the USA.
Matt “Nope” Rosendale displayed his total worthlessness yet again today by joining some of the other far right nutjobs in the House to help block the already DOA “Save Our Gas Stoves” bill some other Repubs had proposed to prove some point. Not that it would ever have passed the Senate, or been signed by Biden. But they were spending our taxpayer money pursuing it anyhow.
But along came the far righties to block that very worthy bill. And why? Because they are mad that their little minority faction of the entire House body does not dictate policy to all, and they wanted to somehow punish McCarthy for reaching compromise on the debt ceiling like an adult. So throwing a little kiddie tantrum is how they punish the adult.
If it sounds too convoluted and too stupid to believe, well, consider, Matt Rosendale was a part of it.

Thanks for the information. Crazy stuff. McCarthy may be in trouble. -JmB
