The Monday Memo

Here are some topics that caught my attention:

  • Voting in Great Falls
  • State Rep. Zooey Zephyr
  • Leading Prayer
  • The Trump Deposition

VOTING IN GREAT FALLS:

According to reporting from The Electric, the Great Falls Public Library board voted during a May 5 emergency meeting to authorize the library director in consultation with the board chair to implement the legal strategy as recommended by legal counsel.

Additionally, The Electric reported that Susie McIntyre, library director, said that the possible legal action they’re considering is asking the court to oversee their levy election set for June 6. McIntyre said it’s not a punitive move, but to ensure their election is conducted properly.

I think this is a smart move by the library board. There are reports by some election watchers and library supporters about reports of ‘no library levy’ stickers being distributed among volunteers in the election office during business hours. Then you have the silly anti-library billboard that proves once and for all that Great Falls has a strain of ignorant people roaming the streets. Plus, it took the Election staff over 25 hours to count the votes in the school board election. Who knows what happened during that 25 hours?

No matter what they say on their website, the first election under the new regime led by Sandra Merchant was a failure – a cluster %$^&.

I will be voting for the library levy. I was happy to see the “Vote Yes for Libraries” committee sent fliers out to voters to get their message out. I hope you will join me in voting YES.

You can view the flier HERE and HERE.

I am seeing that politics is spreading onto the “Nextdoor” app for Great Falls with lots of fake and ill-informed posts on the app about the library levy. The good thing is that a lot of people (me included) have posted messages saying we would be voting YES on the library levy.

STATE REP. ZOOEY ZEPHYR:

Congratulations to Montana State Rep. Zooey Zephyr and Erin Reed on their engagement!

Check out their Twitter posts with photos HERE and HERE.

LEADING PRAYER:

The Daily Montanan is reporting that the Montana Jewish Project asked Speaker of the House Matt Regier this week if he could help the nonprofit understand the reason Rep. Ed Stafman, a rabbi, was denied the opportunity to lead prayer at the end of the legislative session.

It was also reported that Speaker Regier, a Kalispell Republican, could not be reached Friday for comment via voicemail in time for this story.

I think we all know the reason: Antisemitism.

THE TRUMP DEPOSITION:

Several sources including the New York Post reported that a video deposition of former President Donald Trump shows him mixing up former wife Marla Maples with rape accuser E. Jean Carroll — clutching a photo of her and asserting “That’s my wife.”

Previously Trump had disgustingly said that Carroll was not his type and would not have raped her, but then he confused her with his former wife at least twice.

I’m proud to say I never voted for Trump, and I never will. It amazes me how anyone could vote for that sick bastard.

  1. After careful consideration & inability to stop myself I’ll admit:
I’ll vote for the sick bastard if he runs against Biden. I can vote for Kennedy if he wins primarily or is on the ballot as a third-party.
Abortion has two sides. One side wants to let babies live & the otherside wants to let them die for really good reasons.
I don’t give a rat’s ass about climate change, formally known as global warming.
If I met Zooey face to face I would be as polite & kind as I possibly can. Just don’t ask me if I think Zooey is a Woman. I do not.
I’m not in favor of Spay & Neuter Clinics for children. I didn’t have a vote in the matter. Might have voted differently if I had.
I’ll vote no on the library levy. It’s a huge expansion of services.
I don’t watch Fox News or any moving picture news, local or national.
If anyone responds – I’m sure you’ll be kind.
This blog is my first read every weekday morning if Jackie, who I met almost 25 years ago, isn’t late posting.
I don’t go to church anymore but this feels like confession.
    I don’t expect forgiveness.

    • Mary – For some reason, your comment went to SPAM. I retrieved it. Thanks, JmB

  3. The answer is simple. People stop thinking, cast their vote then stop thinking.
My broken record. Do not vote for these people .

  4. Wow there’s some bozos and liars on that Nextdoor thing.

The thing that strikes me most about the “no” crowd is the fervent desire to interfere in everyone else’s “parent’s choice” when it comes to library materials. Can’t be satisfied with bringing up just their own kids, they’ve got to try and “protect” everyone else’s too by prohibiting access to materials others might want to read/see, whether those others asked for their protection or not. Much like our paternalistic “christian” legislators treat Montana parents as incapable of raising their own kids.

    • I very seldom post on nextdoor, but some bozo posted he was not voting for the levy, do I posted “ I am voting YES.” Then the fun began.

  5. Jackie, I disagree. I don’t think antisemitism was the reason that King Matt disinvited the rabbi to speak. Matt is not as dumb as he looks. He made a calculated decision. He decided that it’s better to put up with an antisemitism charge, than to make the same mistake he made with Zooey. He allowed Zooey to speak and explain herself in the hopes that she’d apologize. Instead, she whomped him again! A good one. And the next thing you know, she’s a celebrity and champion for human rights and democracy, and the Regiers are villains.

Nope. I think they had a family council. And daddy said, son, you’re not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Don’t try to get cute with these godless commies, ‘cause they’re tricky and a whole lot smarter than you. Just don’t let’em talk if you can help it. And you just know that the rabbi will probably whomp you again! Can’t help it. It’s part of their religion. Justice. And that’s the last thing we want! And mom chimed in. Son, I can’t sit on that bench forever. I’ve got things to do. Listen to your dad and keep them quiet. All our lives will be easier.

That’s my theory and I’m stickin’ to it.
