THE FAIR TAX ACT OF 2023:

It looks like U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) led the way in opposing the 30% national sales tax and it was not too long before U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) and U.S. Representative Ryan Zinke (R-MT-01) followed Tester’s lead.

As for U.S. Representative Matt Rosendale (R-MT-02), Lee Newspapers did not obtain an answer from him for their story.

This proposal by the Republicans is a great tool for the Democrats, like Tester, to use for reelection. Montanans hate a sales tax, but it seems that several Republicans from Washington, D.C. all the way down to city commissions want to raise our taxes.

MANSFIELD METCALF DINNER:

The Montana Democratic Party announced that U.S. Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona will deliver the Keynote address for the Mansfield Metcalf Dinner on March 4th, 2023 in Helena, MT.

Kelly is a patriot in my book. He is a retired U.S. Navy combat pilot, engineer, NASA astronaut, and Arizona’s Democratic Senator. Kelly’s wife is former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

Readers may remember that Giffords was shot in the head in 2011 during an assassination attempt. She resigned from Congress afterward. She and Kelly started Americans for Responsible Solutions (ARS), a Super PAC that supports gun control. According to Wikipedia, in 2016, the organization merged with the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence to become Giffords.

CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS:

It’s gotten so bad that the Associated Press (AP) reported this week that the National Archives has asked former U.S. presidents and vice presidents to recheck their personal records for any classified documents following the news that President Joe Biden and former Vice President Mike Pence had such documents in their possession.

The AP left out former President Donald Trump, but later in the article had this to report:

“But the issue has taken on greater significance since former President Donald Trump willfully retained classified material at his Florida estate, prompting the unprecedented FBI seizure of thousands of pages of records last year.”

The keywords are “willfully retained.”

Biden and Pence made asses of themselves when they said they had no classified documents in their possession before it was discovered that they both had some classified material in their possession.

Although Biden and Pence are ultimately responsible for this screw-up, most everyone understands that it was staffers who packed the boxes and were not smart enough to ask questions when seeing classified documents.

THE 2024 TICKET:

NBC News reported this week that U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., is angling to be Donald Trump’s running mate in 2024, according to two people who have spoken to the firebrand second-term congresswoman about her ambitions.

How cool would that be? She may need to battle George Santos for the VP slot.

If Greene is the chosen one, we can call the ticket “Dumb and Dumber.”

TOP OF THE FORBES 400:

It was reported this week by “The Babylon Bee” which has a motto of “Fake News that you can Trust” that Harlingen, Texas, resident Gary Marmon climbed to the top of The Forbes 400 after it was revealed he possessed both Taylor Swift tickets and a dozen eggs. Marmon beat out former richest man Elon Musk, who called the newcomer a beacon of inspiration.
