Caught My Eye…

Quote for the Day…

As I’ve said before, you can’t love your country only when you win. -President Joe Biden

Caught My Eye (CME) is the once-a-week column posted every Friday morning. This is when I look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.

Here are a few things that “Caught My Eye” this week:

  • Backward
  • The Biden Speech
  • Boebert – Palin
  • Powerball
  • Campaign Literature

BACKWARD:

Several individuals and organizations filed suit Wednesday to invalidate House Bill 379, a law that allows insurance companies to discriminate on the basis of sex and marital status when setting insurance premium rates for Montanans.

Upper Seven Law sent a press release to The Western Word that, in part, states:

For nearly 40 years, Montana has barred insurance companies from using sex and marital status to set insurance rates. Now, individuals across Montana, including the plaintiffs, will face discriminatory insurance practices. Worse, they will be barred from any remedy for that discrimination. While Montanans who face sex- and marital status-based discrimination generally may file a complaint under the Montana Human Rights Act, HB 379 closes the door on claims of discrimination in insurance ratemaking.

This law should be overturned quickly.

THE BIDEN SPEECH:

President Joe Biden spoke early Wednesday evening about standing up for democracy.

I liked the way he slammed the MAGA Republicans:

The extreme MAGA element of the Republican Party — which is a minority of that party, as I said earlier, but is its driving force — is trying to succeed where they failed in 2020 to suppress the rights of voters and subvert the electoral system itself.

We’ve seen that in Montana and if the courts had not stepped in, many Montanans would not be able to vote. MAGA folks have destroyed the Republican Party in Montana. That’s why we need to keep Ingrid Gustafson on the Montana Supreme Court to keep the MAGA nuts from running wild.

Biden talked about the tactics of MAGA folks:

They’ve emboldened violence and intimidation of voters and election officials.
It’s estimated that there are more than 300 election deniers on the ballot all across America this year.
We can’t ignore the impact this is having on our country. It’s damaging, it’s corrosive, and it’s destructive.

There are several election deniers in Montana, holding office and running for office.

Biden closed his speech with:

You have the power.
It’s your choice. It’s your decision. The fate of the nation, the fate of the soul of America lies where it always does: with the people — in your hands, in your heart, and your ballot.
My fellow Americans, we’ll meet this moment. We just need to remember who we are. We are the United States of America. There’s nothing — nothing beyond our capacity if we do it together.

This speech was one of the most important speeches given by a President. Our country is in trouble. Biden delivered.

BOEBERT – PALIN:

Former Alaska Governor and current candidate for Alaska’s at-large congressional seat, Sarah Palin, was so happy that U.S. Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) endorsed her that she misspelled Boebert’s last name (Boehbert), twice.

She also showed their photos with the New York City skyline in the background.

POWERBALL:

Nobody won the jackpot for the Powerball lottery Wednesday night, so the jackpot for Saturday is around $1.5 billion. Yes, BILLION. (Source)

As I mentioned in Thursday’s column, a ticket sold in Montana won $2 million and another ticket won $100,000. (Source)

As for me, I am one of the 3,821 Montanans who won $8. My family and I ask for privacy as we decide what to do with our winnings.

CAMPAIGN LITERATURE:

So far this election season, I have received about 73 pieces of campaign literature in the mail. It appears to be slowing down some.

I will complete my ballot this weekend and take it to the elections office Monday.

Please vote!

  1. Holy cow. Ms. Rae is quite the MAGA mover and shaker. You best read this before voting. It tells you all you need to know about Rae, except for who’s paying for all her advertising. Some speculate that she’s a big booster for the monstrosity slaughter plant. If that’s the case, we need to know who’s buying her signs for her. Plant supporters? Hog producers?
