The Wednesday Read

Quote for the Day…

May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears. ― Nelson Mandela

In today’s column, I look at these people/issues:

  • Political Hit Pieces
  • Tulsi Gabbard
  • Reading Assignments

POLITICAL HIT PIECES:

You can almost set your clocks to it. Days before the absentee ballots hit the mailbox, the political hit pieces from the various groups start arriving.

Both sides do it and some of the fliers are pretty funny. Some are poorly written, and others are just plain dumb. I actually like them.

But we all know that many voters, especially the MAGA folks, are dumber than a box of hair, so they probably eat these lies up.

On Tuesday, I received a flier from the Montana Republican State Central Committee attacking Democrat Jacob Bachmeier in the Senate District 12 race and promoting Republican Wendy McKamey.

I reside in Senate District 12.

Click HERE and HERE to see the front and back of the flier.

The Montana Republican State Central Committee did not list which office their candidate was running for. They showed some funny photos of Pelosi, Sanders, and AOC while trying to make readers believe that Bachmeier gets his “marching orders” from them. They contend that McKamey is a “problem: solver” and has a “smarter plan.”

Of course, like most political fliers that are hitting the mailboxes this week, this one lacked a lot of truth.

McKamey leans too far to the right for me. She’s in with the MAGA crowd and that means she won’t get my vote.

As for Bachmeier, he has served in the Montana House of Representatives from 2017 through 2021. He’s young and we need more young people serving in Helena.

Visit the Bachmeier for state senate Facebook page HERE.

TULSI GABBARD:

NBC News and several other sources reported that former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii announced Tuesday that she’s leaving the Democratic Party because it’s “now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness.”

Ouch!

Does anyone care that she is leaving? I think it is kind of like the saying, “If a tree falls in the forest…”

Gabbard has already been a regular on Fox News. She needs to get her name recognition up to take on the darlings of the GOP, like Kristi Noem, Nikki Haley, and Elise Stefanik.

Good luck Tulsi!

  1. Hello Jackie,

I received the same political hit pieces in my mail, only with the candidates for my voting district inserted in place of yours. Obviously a well-funded bit of advocacy by some dark money PAC or group targeting our Legislature. It seems their goal is to have a supermajority, if not a solely Republican representation in the Montana legislature. Given the contents of the Montana Repiblican Party platform, all seventeen pages of it, I can see why they don’t want anyone there to debate their issues in a public forum.

These are dark days for Montana and we can only hope that saner heads prevail at the ballot box. However, reading the exploits of the elected Republican officials in Cascade County as you have reported, I am doubtful and afraid for our future. We might be better off being hit by the unknown asteroid NASA is trying to protect us from.

  2. I saw the item about Tulsi Gabbard “leaving” the Democratic party. My first reaction was, “What took her so long to make it official?” My immediate second reaction was, “Finally!!” My third reaction was to make a bet with myself that Gabbard will soon run afoul of Greene, Boebert, Palin, et al. They regard themselves as the standard bearers for orthodox maga right-wingery and will immediately shade the upstart newcomer. I even gave myself pretty good odds. Who’s making the popcorn?

  3. McKamey is not really a MAGA according to 1/2 the Republicans in Cascade County. Big split with CCRCC and Pachyderm Club. A PAC was formed to oppose the “Rhinos” in the primary races. They even set up two different tables at events. McKaney, Buttery and other Republicans are labeled Rhino’s.
The primary for sheriff race was sponsored by the PAC.

    • Mary – Thanks. I agree that she is not as far off the deep end MAGA as other nut jobs in Cascade County, but since she is in my district I followed her votes closely. She went along with the MAGA crowd more than she did not.
It’s time for younger people, like Bachmeier, to be elected and bring new ideas and energy to the legislature. -JmB
