Quote for the Day…
Sunshine all the time makes a desert. – Arab Proverb
Caught My Eye (CME) is the once-a-week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.
Here are some of the things that “Caught My Eye” this week:
- Voting in Montana
- Thinking About It
- Build the Wall Sign
- One More Thing
VOTING IN MONTANA:
This week, after all the attempts by the Republicans to make it harder to vote in Montana, common sense prevailed.
The Montana Free Press (MTFP reported that the Montana Supreme Court released an opinion Wednesday reinstating Election Day voter registration and blocking new voter identification requirements in advance of this year’s Nov. 8 general election.
This is wonderful news. I think it’s time for Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen to cut some new commercials, so Montana voters have the correct information.

THINKING ABOUT IT:
Proving that he has no idea how to handle classified information, several sources, including The Hill reported that former President Donald Trump asserted that presidents don’t have to go through a formal process to declassify sensitive documents and can do so “even by thinking about it.”
Trump was on the Fox News Hannity Show. Here is how The Hill reported the exchange:
“There doesn’t have to be a process, as I understand it, If you’re the president of the United States, you can declassify just by saying, ‘It’s declassified.’ Even by thinking about it.”
“There can be a process, but there doesn’t have to be. You’re the president. You make that decision. So when you send it, it’s declassified,” Trump added. “I declassified everything.”
Trump is dumber than a box of rocks. He has done irreparable damage to our country. He and his MAGA followers are destroying the USA.

BUILD THE WALL SIGN:
You’ve got to hand it to the MAGA folks; they sure are gullible. A few years ago, Donald Trump said, “I love the poorly educated” and I can see why as they will believe about anything.
Earlier this week, an actual photo of a house on Martha’s Vineyard was shown with a sign in front of the house that read, “Build the wall.” It went viral on the internet. (Example)
It was a fake sign. Here’s how the Associated Press (AP) reported it:
Following Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ decision to fly some 50 migrants to Martha’s Vineyard last week, a fabricated image purporting to show a house on the island with a yard sign that reads “Build the Wall” spread on social media.

ONE MORE THING:
This made me sad…
Early on Wednesday morning, a semi-trailer carrying cases of Coors Light crashed on Interstate 75, about 30 miles from Tampa, spilling cans of beer all over the road, according to a statement from Florida Highway Patrol. It took about six hours to clean it up. (People)
Sadly, there was not enough time for me to get to Florida to help with the cleanup…
Someone should tell Slaughter, “ This ain’t Dodge city and he ain’t Bill Hickock.” Sorry I just love that quote.
Bill – Amen to that. Great quote! Thanks, JmB
Off topic, but important.
It really bugs the hell outta me that Jesse Slaughter gets to personally hire and train up to thirty-seven armed personnel who will apparently answer to him and him alone as armed guards for the schools. With Jesse’s affiliation with some of the most extreme right wing groups, these guys will in essence be Jesse’s private militia. The could easily be called up by Jesse to intervene in any kind of dispute, especially of an environmental nature. When the Bundys come up here for a standoff, can Jesse be trusted to not join in with them, for he very much opposes the concept of public lands? It’s an integral part of constitutionalist beliefs. And with his election, he’s encouraging those types to come up here. Most Montanans love our public lands, and these so called constitutionalists present a very real threat to them. Our legislature is already full of them. And now they’re infiltrating law enforcement.
We need to have a discussion.

Larry – seems a long ways off right now. First, they need to pass the safety levy. Second, school boards have final approval. Thanks, JmB
I would hope so, but these guys love usurping power they don’t have for themselves until they’re finally told no. Jesse found that out with the judges. They’re on a roll.
