Tuesday’s Quick Hits

Quote for the Day…

Extremes to the right and to the left of any political dispute are always wrong. ― Dwight D. Eisenhower

In today’s column, I take a quick look at these people/issues:

  • 2022 Montana GOP Platform Convention
  • The Western Word Poll
  • Flight Over the Falls 2022
  • NFL Training Camps

2022 MONTANA GOP PLATFORM CONVENTION:

After reading the report from the Montana Free Press (MTFP) about the 2022 Montana GOP Platform Convention held last weekend in Billings, it appears that moderates are no longer wanted in the Montana Republican Party.

MTFP reported:

A majority of the delegates repeatedly approved amendments to the platform that steer the party further to the right at a time when it already enjoys near-historic control over the state.

Then, MTFP reported the delegates approved the most extreme abortion language:

On abortion, the convention approved language stating that the party supports an outright ban on elective abortion without exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother.

This is not the Montana Republican Party that moderates like me can associate with.

Beam me up, Scotty…

THE WESTERN WORD POLL:

This week’s poll question asks, “What should happen to the law enforcement officials who failed to properly respond to the mass shooting at Uvalde elementary school?” (Background)

The results will be posted later this week.

FLIGHT OVER THE FALLS 2022:

Just a reminder that the USAF Thunderbirds will be performing in Great Falls, Montana, this weekend, July 23-24. The event will be held at Great Falls International Airport. It’s free!

  1. A complete ban on abortion? Montana has become unrecognizable. Hard to believe that we fell victim to outta state carnival barker preachers, con men, and their Jesus jumper followers running on a platform of hate. That’ll really make Montana an attractive place to do business. We have a hard enough time recruiting doctors as it is. Threaten them with jail time for doing their jobs and see how many come running.

I prefer my old Montana and the guys with a bottle in their hands. At least they were hard working and honest, and never worried about the religious beliefs of others. Church goin’ was for little old ladies with nuthin’ better to do. Kinda like our legislature.
