The Wednesday Read

Quote for the Day…

You aren’t mature enough to debate something if you can’t accept the possibility of being wrong. – Ed Latimore

In today’s column, I look at these people/issues:

  • Steve Daines
  • Baby Formula
  • 2022 NFL Schedule Release
  • The Western Word Poll

STEVE DAINES:

U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) embarrassed Montana on Tuesday when he gave a speech on the Senate floor about abortion.

The headline from the Independent kind of said it all, “Republican senator compares women to sea turtles and eagles in speech against abortion rights.”

Here is how Daines phrased it:

“Why do we have laws in place that protect the eggs of a sea turtle or the eggs of eagles?” Mr. Daines said. “Because when you destroy an egg, you’re killing a pre-born baby sea turtle or a pre-born baby eagle. Yet when it comes to a pre-born human baby rather than a sea turtle, that baby will be stripped of all protections in all 50 states under the Democrats’ bill we will be voting on tomorrow.”

I guess we know who the second-class people are in the Daines household…

When I hear Daines speak, it always reminds me of the saying, “Some people are born on third base and go through life thinking they hit a triple.”

BABY FORMULA:

In the world of Steve Daines, everything is Joe Biden’s fault. I follow Daines on social media and it’s tiresome to keep track of everything Daines says is Biden’s fault.

On Tuesday Daines had this to say:

In Joe Biden’s America, Montana families can’t even find baby formula because of the supply chain crisis.
Unacceptable.

Through my personal Facebook account, I replied:

Mr. Daines – instead of pointing fingers, do something. You are a U.S. Senator!

A Daines supporter then attacked me for being a “leftist” and said, “You’re (sic) party Is in charge.” After asking him how much tinfoil he used to make his hats, he responded with, “how many times in the last month have you had to ask your wife if you can use the bathroom.”

Crazy shit. I like to debate folks, but if all they have to respond with is name-calling, I can turn into an instant asshole.

As for the issue of baby formula, there was a recall of some formulas for safety reasons. I can find no reason to blame Joe Biden on this issue. Daines seems to want to throw shit against the wall on social media about Biden and see if it sticks. I don’t remember if Daines blamed anyone for the toilet paper shortage or not.

You can get the scoop about the baby formula shortage HERE and HERE.

2022 NFL SCHEDULE RELEASE:

THE WESTERN WORD POLL:

There is talk about the Biden Administration canceling student loan debt. (Background)

The results will be posted later this week.

  1. A Daines quote cited today by the Flathead Beacon: “The Liberal Twitter mob throwing a turtle tantrum are the same people who believe men can get pregnant.”

    • I saw that on Twitter. I responded that a staffer should hide his phone. Thanks, JmB

  2. Daines avidly supported the most corrupt, dishonest, incompetent president and administration in US history, and wants desperately to have them back again. He vehemently supports ‘Lyin’ Ryan Zinke, who turned out to be too corrupt and dishonest for even that administration to tolerate. What a sterling example Daines is for the character of the far right.

A little astray from the topic, but pertinent: I see that authorities have erected an 8* fence before the Supreme Court, and made the sidewalk in front off limits to citizens. In glaring contrast, the Supreme Court in 2014 struck down a Massachusetts law that established a 35* safety buffer zone around reproductive health clinics because “it infringed on citizens’ rights of assembly and free speech.”

Apparently the far right, long lacking the slightest hint of integrity and compassion, also has no sense of irony.

  3. Montana Free Press voter guide has Buchanan statements today. Pro choice and marijuana taken off federal schedule 1 drug status. Progress

  4. That Joe Biden is quite the powerful fellow. Supply chain problems the world over? Yup. His fault. Ditto inflation and gas prices. He’s reaching out and mismanaging the economy of every country around the globe!

There couldn’t possibly be any other reason for all these woes around the world, like some shared disaster. And there couldn’t possibly be any other reason for U.S. inflation than the two bills Biden signed last year, like maybe the 5 separate coronavirus measures totaling $3.5 trillion that Trump and his Republican yes men in the congress pumped into the economy in 2020 as they tried to buy his re-election.
