Quote for the Day…
Pay close attention to the people who don’t clap when you win. – Unknown
Today’s independent commentary deals with these people/issues:
- We Have a Map
- The Western Word Poll
- One More Thing
WE HAVE A MAP:
The Associated Press reported that a new map dividing Montana into two congressional districts for the first time in decades was finalized Tuesday, triggering disappointment from Democrats who hoped to craft a different western district that would give them a better chance of winning in an increasingly Republican-dominated state.
Lee Newspapers reported that Democrats on the state Districting and Apportionment Commission gained one small change Tuesday to the Republican-drawn map that had advanced Nov. 4 on a 3-2 decision. Pondera County, which is the only county with turf in both districts, received a smaller share of the Western district than initially proposed. Pondera contains a portion of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation which is in the Western District. Tuesday’s change means the reservation portion of Pondera will remain in the West.
That was a good move.
The bunker that is home to The Western Word is firmly in the eastern district. It’s the place that has razor wire, several German Shepherds, and claymore mines surrounding it.
But let’s talk about the poor Democrats – the horror…the horror! They lost this battle.
Maybe the answer to this whole issue is the Democrats should try fielding better candidates?
I guess there are 12 candidates running in the two districts for U.S. Congress. There will be more now that we know the boundaries.
I’m happy to see this Districting and Apportionment Commission start to wrap up this soap opera. I hope a couple of the old farts on the commission just fade away. What an embarrassment.

THE WESTERN WORD POLL:
It’s the first week after the time change! So, this week’s poll question asks, “Time Change – which do you favor?”
Results will be released later this week.
ONE MORE THING:
I’ve seen this question posted on social media by the anti-vax people and I must respond:
When you get a flu shot do you worry about the people who do not get it? Just curious.
Nope. I worry about idiots like you who post silly crap that has nothing to do with fighting the COVID pandemic. Your fear of the government has caused you to stick your head so far up your ass, that you no longer comprehend basic facts or care for your fellow citizens.
I worry about those same idiots posting fake information about COVID and suddenly becoming infectious disease experts on social media.
The bottom line is that COVID has taken the lives of over 757,000 people in the United States since February 2020. (SOURCE) During the 2018-2019 flu season, over 34,000 people in the U.S. lost their lives due to influenza. (SOURCE)
Trump’s good people no doubt.

Larry – as one who worked in a Senate Field Office, for a Republican, I can tell you there are assholes on the left, too. I’ve been threatened and my family has been threatened. Not cool. -JmB
I think this is different.
. “Upton told the newspaper the calls started after his Republican colleague, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, publicly posted the names and phone numbers of Upton and a dozen other GOP House members who voted in support of the bill, calling them “traitors.”
Not really. Extremes from the right and left suck. Bottom dwellers.
It’s really impressive how the guy who last year couldn’t help his 5th-grader with arithmetic, this year is more knowledgeable about epidemiology and medical practice than lifelong professionals with multiple advanced degrees. Talk about self-improvement!!
Fred – Very true! There are many of them. Thanks, JmB
