Quote for the Day…
Wow, apparently it is rude to ask the parents with a child on a leash if it was a rescue. -Unknown
Welcome to Caught My Eye (CME)!
CME is the once-a-week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.
Here are some of the things that “Caught My Eye” this week:
- Matt, Matt, Matt
- General Mark Milley
- Fake News
- One More Thing
MATT, MATT, MATT:
On Twitter Thursday, U.S. Representative Matt Rosendale (R-MT/AL) told his followers what he thought of Afghanistan nationals being settled in Montana:
Today I learned that 75 refugees from Afghanistan will be arriving in Montana. I strongly oppose the resettlement of these Afghan nationals in Montana.
I guess old Matt has never heard of the welcome wagon. Shame on him and those who think like him.
Most of the comments were critical of Matt’s stand against the refugees. For my part I tweeted this reply to him:
That’s probably the way Montanans felt when you and your family arrived here in 2002. Maybe we can make a trade?
Heck, maybe we can trade Rosendale, Greg Gianforte, and Steve Daines for the refugees. They all were born somewhere else and then moved here and used their wealth to buy the offices they now hold.
GENERAL MARK MILLEY:
There was a lot of chatter this week about Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
According to the Washington Post, the forthcoming book “Peril,” by Post writers Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, tells how Milley called a meeting of top military commanders to forestall any hasty nuclear strike order by then-President Donald Trump. It was also reported that Milley made two phone calls to his Chinese counterpart, Gen. Li Zuocheng of the People’s Liberation Army to let them know the United States would not strike.
Several Republicans are calling on Milley to be fired or for him to resign. President Joe Biden has said he does not know Milley. Just joking – Biden said he has “great confidence” in the General.
One way to look at this is to turn it around. What if Milley was the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Barack Obama instead of Donald Trump and had done the same thing? The Republicans would be calling him a patriot and a hero for what he did. Not many elected officials in Washington look at things in a non-partisan manner. It’s all about scoring political points.
Milley did the right thing. Trump was acting batshit crazy after he lost the election. I’m glad Milley was looking out for the USA.

FAKE NEWS:
One of the hateful people that I monitor on Facebook posted THIS PHOTO around the 20th Anniversary of 9/11.
Disgusting.
The meme says:
2001
85 surveillance cameras failed to capture even 1 second of video of a Boeing 757 crashing into the Pentagon. Huge coincidence or are they hiding something?
I knew several people who were working in the Pentagon on 9/11. To try and say this was a conspiracy and that officials are hiding something is downright un-American.
By the way, you can see video from one of those cameras capture the moment HERE.
As for the Las Vegas shooter (the other part of the meme), you can watch him via video take the guns into the hotel.
ONE MORE THING:
She said she missed me. Normally that would be good, but she’s reloading. -Unknown
Unbelievable.

Incidentally the City of GF website finally has a link to information about that Sept 13 Crime Task Force meeting, including the video. “Panhandler-gate” kicks off at about 1:29 and drags on for awhile.
There’s also a really excellent anti-marijuana public comment at 1:55. The root cause of many hideous violent crimes of the nation’s past is finally revealed, right here in a City of GF Montana task force meeting. Food for thought.

Terry – the link wouldn’t work for me. I think this is the one you were referring:

My bad. I double entered the URL string into tinyurl.
Your link is correct directly to the video, and the one I was attempting to the entire meeting page with all the supporting materials and so on is:

Terry – no problem. I listened to the parts you talked about. All I have to say is “Five drunk guys will start a fight. . .five stoned guys will start a band.”
Thanks, JmB
If you watch nothing else, I would encourage folks to watch the exchange between Judge Parker and Commissioner Tryon beginning at 1:29:31. It’s a lesson in how you debate with someone who knows absolutely nothing about debate. Judge Parker masterfully handles the personal attacks from Commissioner Tryon, never once loosing his cool. It’s painfully obvious which person has the education, experience, personality, skill and training to be on such a board debating such issues. It was quite fun to watch. But feel free to draw your own conclusions. And if you can figure out just what the judge said that was so offensive as to launch Commissioner Tryon into personal attacks, please let me know because I couldn’t see it.
It’s sure a different Montana than when we welcomed the Vietnamese and Hmong refugees after that war. Now we have haters who jump all over Mayor Kelly for saying Great Falls would welcome refugees from Syria, and a hater representative elected by other haters who is opposed to giving a safe home to people who were our allies in a different war. And I’d bet nearly every single one of them refers to themself as “Christian”.
Terry – great point. Rosendale has established himself as one of the most extreme officials ever elected. Thanks, JmB
Wow. Rosie learned another Montana value recently. And that is if you’re gonna be an arrogant ignorant loudmouthed ass and run your mouth off in a bar, eventually someone is going to close it for you. And buddy let me tell ya they did! The comments to Matt’s tweet are a must read. They’re not only hilarious, but they’ll renew your faith in the decency of your fellow Montanans. Hopefully he won’t scrub them.
