The Monday Memo

Quote for the day…

Sometimes I wish I were a nicer person but then I laugh and continue my day. -@RebelCircus

Today’s independent commentary deals with these issues:

  • The Western Word Poll
  • Are We Doomed?
  • Reading Assignments

It seems everywhere we turn someone has an opinion about the handling of the troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. A lot of those opinions are political.

Here is your chance to give your opinion – “Grade President Joe Biden on his handling of the troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.”

The results will be released later this week.

After this past weekend of being out and about, I have concluded that we’re pretty much doomed when it comes to heading off this pandemic.

I want my sensitive readers to notice that I used “doomed” instead of the “F” word, although the “F” word seems more appropriate.

While doing some grocery shopping (I was wearing a mask), I noticed that only about 20% of the folks in the store were wearing masks. The employees were wearing masks, but some were not covering their noses. I think that caused me to buy extra wine.

At a local gym, only one person I saw out of maybe 35-40 was wearing a mask.

I watched an online church service this weekend. I did not see any masks being worn. Lots of hugs between maskless people, though.

Some parents are upset about the mask mandate in the local public schools for Pre-K through sixth grade. Many voiced their concerns at a School Board meeting last week. Many anti-mask people proved how ignorant they are.

I think the Superintendent in Great Falls needs to expand the mask mandate for middle and high school students. School in Great Falls public schools starts Wednesday.

The anti-maskers need to understand that teachers and administrators do not set the policy, this is done by the School Board. So be nice to the teachers and administrators. Don’t be an a-hole.

The infection rate for Cascade County (Great Falls) (where I live) is spiking. The vaccination rate in Montana is only 49%.

Here is the message (08/12/21) from City-County Health Department:

The Cascade City-County Health Department (CCHD) follows the CDC guidance on mask-wearing.
In areas with “substantial” or “high” transmission rates, the CDC is recommending that everyone wear a mask indoors in public places. This includes fully vaccinated persons. Cascade County is currently classified as having the highest level of community transmission. This can be monitored here. Accordingly, CCHD strongly recommends that all persons age two or older wear a mask indoors in public places, even if you are fully vaccinated.
Additionally, in areas with high numbers of COVID-19 cases, such as Cascade County, the CDC recommends that people “consider wearing a mask in crowded outdoor settings and for activities with close contact with others who are not fully vaccinated.”

So, I think we are looking at a terrible fall and winter with cases spiking and those who refused to get vaccinated, getting really sick, and many dying. I doubt many will be shouting “freedom” or “parental choice” while they take their last breath.

  2. Those who are proclaiming that wearing a mask tramples on their personal liberties should start using this spelling, “Freedumb.”
