Caught My Eye…

Song lyrics for the Day…

We got cowboys
We got truckers
Broken-hearted fools and suckers
And we got hustlers
We got fighters
Early-birds and all-nighters
And the veterans talk about their battle scars

Welcome to another exciting edition of Caught My Eye (CME)!

CME is the once-a-week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.

Here are some of the things that “Caught My Eye” this week:

  • Montana Supreme Court
  • Tracy Stone-Manning
  • Attacks on the VP
  • One More Thing

MONTANA SUPREME COURT:

The Montana Supreme Court’s response to the Republicans in the Montana Legislature reminded me of an open-handed slap across the side of the face.

It’s going to sting for a few weeks.

MTN News reported this week that in a unanimous ruling, the Montana Supreme Court Wednesday soundly rejected the attempt by legislative Republicans to subpoena internal court emails and documents, saying it clearly exceeds legislative authority. The decision declared the subpoenas invalid, said they could not be reissued and ordered any emails initially obtained to be returned to the court.

The “unanimous ruling” means that even the conservative justices thought the Republicans crossed the line.

The best way to describe the actions by the legislative Republicans who, for a few days every two years act like big shots, is reckless. They are screwing up the state.

The Montana Free Press covers the story HERE.

TRACY STONE-MANNING:

U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) is against a nominee from President Joe Biden? Raise your hand if you are surprised.

Daines is a Trump man through and through. He and his staff spend the day posting negative shit about President Biden. That seems to be all he gets done – and constituent services take a backseat to politics.

The Montana Free Press (MTFP) is reporting this week that Republican members of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources issued a letter to President Joe Biden Wednesday urging him to rescind his nomination of Tracy Stone-Manning to lead the Bureau of Land Management. The letter’s signatories, including Montana Sen. Steve Daines, say Stone-Manning made “false and misleading” statements to the committee about her involvement in a tree-spiking incident that led to an investigation and two convictions.

Yawn.

Washington is so effed up these days.

ATTACKS ON THE VP:

I don’t mind when people find an issue with an elected official and pounce on it. We should be able to do this. It should never get personal.

The other day a photo of Vice President Kamala Harris made the rounds on social media with the following information:

Her stupidity is staggering.
Her incompetence is scary.
Her laugh is hideous.
Her presence is embarrassing.
Her Vice-Presidency I’ll never recognize!

Is it sexism, racism, or all the above? Certain folks are so illiterate that all they can do is spread hateful messages.

A few posts later these same people talk about loving Jesus. In my humble opinion, I doubt the Jesus I know approves of your hatred.

As for not recognizing her Vice Presidency, who cares about your recognizing it. The history books will. It is historic.

As for being stupid – She was an attorney general, and a U.S. Senator. I would put her IQ against yours every day.

The bottom line is I think people who post these hate messages are the problem with this country, I say pull your chair up to the table and have a debate about the issues – don’t be a chickenshit. Don’t unfriend or block those who disagree with you. Be an adult.

The comment section is always open here at The Western Word, as is the comment section on The Western Word Facebook page. By the way, my name goes on every column.

ONE MORE THING:

Some folks from across the fruited plains need to see this:

Have a great weekend!

  1. It would be interesting I expect to see demographics of members and potential members of the Biden administration who seem to trigger the most blatantly hyperbolic outrage, indignation, and hysteria from the extreme right. How many are: Women? People of Color? Worst of all – women of color? Any little smidgen of a suspicion that those numbers might show a little extra bias?

It’s particularly ironic that this is all being generated by the political extreme that has produced the likes of Sarah Palin, David Clarke, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, and the like.

    • Fred – great points. The GOP sure has fielded some doozies! Thanks, JmB

  2. Lots of former Republicans, even from trumps’s own administration, are sounding the alarm. Wallace states it pretty plainly. In her piece she mentions law enforcement being infiltrated. I think we’re seeing that here too with Jesse and his constitutionalist nonsense. Very scary time for our country.
