Welcome to another exciting edition of Caught My Eye (CME)!
CME is the once-a-week column that is posted every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week.
Here are some of the things that “Caught My Eye” this week:
- Inauguration Day
- Ronny Jackson
- Insurrectionists
- Dumbass Of The Week
INAUGURATION DAY:
I had to run some errands Thursday (March 4) and did not get to monitor the situation in Washington, D.C., as closely as I would have liked.
About 8:30 a.m. I Tweeted:
Anyone know what time the inauguration is today?
Nobody answered my Tweet.
I figured since the right-wing clowns in the Montana Legislature were taking time off from all their “hard” work, a few of them would be in D.C. for Trump’s inauguration.
The fact is nothing happened. It was a conspiracy. There are tons of gullible people on the right who believe whatever Trump and his people say.
I look forward to the next conspiracy. There’s one current conspiracy that goes something like this, according to Politifact:
“Trump can run for Congress in 2022, in FL. If he wins the seat and Republicans take over the House of Representatives, he could become the Speaker of the House. Then, his first act could be impeaching Joe (Biden) and Kamala (Harris). If it works, he finishes out the remainder of Biden’s term and can still run for President in 2024. Wouldn’t that be a hoot!”
Some of that could happen. Some of it will never happen, but since many of Trump’s supporters are uneducated and ignorant, I can see how they might believe it.
RONNY JACKSON:
I remember when Donald Trump called on U.S. Senator Jon Tester to resign because Tester had found some negative information about Trump’s pick to run the Department of Veterans Affairs, Ronny Jackson. Jackson decided to withdraw from consideration. Jackson served as White House physician for Obama and Trump.
Trump was pissed.
Trump, Mike Pence, and many members of the Trump family came to Montana several times to try and defeat Tester, who was being challenged by Matt Rosendale. Tester received more votes in his race against Rosendale than in his other two races for U.S. Senate. It was also the first time Tester received over 50% of the vote.
Come to find out that Tester was mostly right about Ronny Jackson. The Department of Defense Inspector General discovered some disturbing things about Jackson. The Daily Montanan had this headline:
IG report finds Jackson intimidated subordinates, drank, used prescription drugs while on duty
The Hill reports that Jackson, who served as the White House doctor for 14 years under former presidents Trump and Obama, said allegations of abusing subordinates and drinking on the job are “complete garbage.”
You can read the IG report over at CNN by clicking HERE.
INSURRECTIONISTS:
CNN reported this week that federal investigators are examining records of communications between members of Congress and the pro-Trump mob that attacked the US Capitol, as the investigation moves closer to exploring whether lawmakers wittingly or unwittingly helped the insurrectionists, according to a US official briefed on the matter.
If members of Congress helped these terrorists, they should be expelled and charged with treason. Staffers should be fired and charged with treason.
I wonder if anyone from Montana helped the insurrectionists…
DUMBASS OF THE WEEK:
U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) is forcing the clerks in the U.S. Senate to read the entire COVID-19 relief bill. Some reports are saying that reading the bill will take close to 10 hours. It’s about 628 pages.
The Hill is also reporting that Johnson wants Republicans to sign up for shifts so they could potentially force hundreds of amendment votes.
All it will do is delay the bill. It won’t defeat the bill. It’s pointless. With the help of Vice President Kamala Harris, the bill passed a procedural vote 51-50. That will probably be the final tally when the bill comes up again in a few days.
For his work in delaying the bill from being passed which is delaying assistance to millions of Americans, U.S. Senator Ron Johnson is the “Dumbass of the Week.”
Trump would be a fitting candidate for Florida’s 21st congressional district, where the local Republicans chose noted right wing intellectual Laura Loomer to do battle on their behalf in 2020.
