Caught My Eye…

Be good to your spouse – remember right now they could poison you and it would be counted as a COVID death. -Unknown

You’ve made it to the end of July – congratulations and welcome to another exciting edition of Caught My Eye (CME).

CME is the once a week column that is posted here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. There may be some sarcasm and pointed independent commentary so be warned!

Here are the topics that “Caught My Eye” this week:

  • Three Debates
  • Bullock Staffer Fired
  • Delay the Election
  • One More Thing

THREE DEBATES:

It looks like there will be three debates in the Montana U.S. Senate race between incumbent Senator Steve Daines (R) and challenger Governor Steve Bullock.

According to the Great Falls Tribune, the three debates are the Montana Broadcasters Debate on Aug. 8, the Montana PBS Debate on Sept. 28, and the Montana Television Network debate on Oct. 10.

Those who have listened to Daines and Bullock speak will understand that these debates will be a little like watching paint dry.

BULLOCK STAFFER FIRED:

The Associated Press (AP) reported late Thursday that Evan McCullers, an aide to Montana Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock’s senate campaign, was fired Thursday after a history of racist, sexist, and homophobic tweets surfaced.

The AP also reported McCullers completed high school in 2013, making him a teenager at the time the tweets were written. It was also reported that he apologized for his tweets, calling them “vile, inappropriate, and unacceptable.”

Good for him – own up to it and apologize.

According to the AP, before working on Bullock’s campaign, McCullers served as an executive assistant for U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, a Montana Democrat, according to McCullers’ LinkedIn profile.

By the way, I am on LinkedIn. I promise to add you to my network if you contact me!

Today political staffers around the country are being reminded by their bosses to scrub their personal social media accounts before the opposition research folks find it.

DELAY THE ELECTION:

You’ve got to hand it to Joe Biden. He predicted back in April that Donald Trump would try to delay the election. Biden said this:

“Mark my words, I think he is going to try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can’t be held.”

Early Thursday morning Trump tweeted the following:

With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???

To be fair, Trump can say he added three question marks after the statement so he can say he was just asking a question.

It was a dumb question. It was a question that came from a man who is losing and a man who is not up to the job.

Trump and his supporters will cry fraud all the way through the election, which at this time it looks as though they will lose.

Voting by mail is very safe. I’ve done it for years. I know when my ballot will arrive. I can mail it back or deliver it to the election office. My signature is verified by election officials. I can go online and track it and see if it was accepted.

We’ve had presidential elections throughout our nation’s history. We’ll have one on November 3, 2020.

ONE MORE THING:

Don’t forget to stretch…
