The Monday Memo

We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone. ― Ronald Reagan

Today’s independent commentary deals with these people/issues:

  • Biden/Trump
  • Rubio/Sullivan
  • Trump/Lewis
  • Opening Night
  • One More Thing

BIDEN/TRUMP:

A new ABC News/Washington Post poll released Sunday shows Joe Biden ahead of Donald Trump 55%-40% among registered voters and 54%-44% among likely voters.

Biden is also more trusted to handle the coronavirus than Trump 54% to 34%.

The poll also found:

Sixty-one percent say Trump has done more to divide than to unite the country, more than said so about either of his two predecessors in office. When asked which candidates would do more to unite Americans, Biden leads by another wide margin, 57-33%.

Maybe people are starting to realize that Trump is an ass.

RUBIO/SULLIVAN:

It must be embarrassing to be U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK) today.

The two Republicans tried to honor U.S. Rep. John Lewis on Twitter and Facebook. Lewis died Friday. They both posted photos of the late U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings instead.

Cummings died in October, so at least they substituted one dead person for another one.

If Rubio and/or Sullivan are ever called to identify someone in a lineup, I would be suspicious of who they pick.

TRUMP/LEWIS:

The Associated Press reported that in the hours after the death of American civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to retweet old missives about Democratic rival Joe Biden and lash out at his former national security adviser and his niece for writing tell-all books about him.

Trump then headed out to play golf for several hours.

After playing golf and 14 hours after Lewis’ death was announced he offered his and the first lady’s condolences. That was after all four living former Presidents had issued statements.

Trump hates a lot of people…

OPENING NIGHT:

Good news – Major League Baseball begins its 2020 60-Game Regular Season on July 23. Opening day begins July 24.

ONE MORE THING:

Passenger: Why should I have to wear a mask if yours works?
Driver: Good point. (He then shuts off his headlights)
Passenger: What are you doing, it’s dark?
Driver: Chill. The other cars have their headlights on.
