The Wednesday Read

Quote of the day:

Today’s independent commentary deals with these people/issues:

  • BBC Comes to Montana
  • Trump’s Executive Order
  • Executive Order & Campaigning

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) went to the US state of Montana to hear about what voters think of President Trump. Supporters of the president said that Mr. Trump doesn’t underestimate their intelligence and that they hope they can keep him in the White House come fall.

Check out the video by clicking HERE.

One woman interviewed said, “These people here are genuine Americans.” She went on to say, “I enjoy being in the red part of our country, you might call it the flyover area, but it’s the important part and where the Americans live.”

Another woman said Trump, “Doesn’t care about the American people as a whole, people of color, women.”

It’s an easy prediction to say that Trump will win Montana and our three electoral votes in 2020. What amazes me is how many people, not just in Montana, were fooled by Trump in 2016. Will he be able to fool enough people to win in 2020?

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order (EO) on Safe Policing for Safe Communities.

I feel safer already! Not really, but please read on…

In his remarks, Trump said:

That is why today I’m signing an executive order encouraging police departments nationwide to adopt the highest professional standards to serve their communities. These standards will be as high and as strong as there is on Earth.

Does he mean there’s a chance that higher standards exist on a planet, like Mars?

Trump also says that chokeholds will be banned, except if an officer’s life is at risk.

I wonder who gets to decide – the officer or the suspect.

The speech before the signing of the EO was not without politics. As Trump went on and on, he went off script and it became a political speech.

Trump said:

President Obama and Vice President Biden never even tried to fix this during their eight-year period. The reason they didn’t try is because they had no idea how to do it. And it is a complex situation.

Within a few seconds, the press following the event deemed Trump’s remark a lie.

One thing I liked in this EO is the following:

Under this executive order, departments will also need to share of information about credible abuses so that officers with significant issues do not simply move from one police department to the next.

During or right after the signing event by President Trump about Safe Policing for Safe Communities the Trump campaign sent an email titled “Democrats’ latest stunt.”

It was the same old same old with Trump’s campaign saying, “While Democrats are calling to DEFUND THE POLICE, President Trump is taking real action by signing an Executive Order to reform and take care of local policemen and women.”

But the kicker was the following lines:

We’re giving YOU the unique opportunity to co-sign President Trump’s Executive Order. Together, we’ll show the Left that America will NEVER turn its back on law enforcement.

Team Trump goes on to say:

President Trump needs your support right now.

He’s asked to see a list of EVERY AMERICAN who co-signs his Executive Order TODAY. We’re sending him ALL signatures TOMORROW morning – will he see your name?

It’s a classic example of trawling for names to ask for money.
