Caught My Eye…

May we never forget freedom isn’t free. – Unknown

Welcome to “Caught My Eye” (CME)!

CME is the once a week column that is posted here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. There may be some sarcasm and pointed independent commentary so be warned!

Here are the topics that “Caught My Eye” this week:

  • Bullock out-raises Daines
  • Montana GOP & Cooney
  • Trump Disapproval
  • Tested Positively Toward Negative
  • Trump in Michigan
  • One More Thing

MTN News reported this week that Montana Governor Steve Bullock (D) out-raised U.S. Senator Steve Daines (R) by a 2-to-1 margin in the past six weeks, increasing his campaign fundraising take to almost $6 million since entering the U.S. Senate contest in early March. Bullock reported Thursday that he raised nearly $2.5 million during the six weeks ending May 13, compared to $1.3 million for Daines during the same period.

This is good news for Bullock, but it is a long way to November. I’m sure everyone will have plenty of money to get their message out.

Knowing that their chances of winning the Governor’s race are better if they are taking on Whitney Williams instead of Mike Cooney, the Associated Press reported that the Montana Republican Party filed an ethics complaint with the Commissioner of Political Practices alleging Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney participated in a campaign strategy call in his office at the Capitol.

You didn’t think the Montana Republican Party cared about ethics, did you?

Anyway, Cooney’s campaign admitted he did it, so this may be one of the few ethics complaints the Montana Republican Party wins.

Party on, Garth…

A new poll released this week from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows that 41% of Americans approve of the president’s job performance, while 58% disapprove.

That 58% disapproval might be a record for Trump.

The following quote is from President Donald Trump this week when he was asked about the results of his latest coronavirus test:

I tested very positively in another sense. So this morning, yeah, I tested positively toward negative, right? So no, I tested perfectly this morning. Meaning, meaning I tested negative. But that’s a way of saying it, positively toward the negative.

This must be caused by the side effects of hydroxychloroquine…

The Associated Press reported that President Donald Trump toured a Ford Motor Company factory this week in Michigan. He did not wear a mask which was against company policy, against state law, and it endangered those close to the President.

So the big news is not the great work the folks at Ford Motor Company factory are doing, but the President not wearing a protective mask.

Monday is Memorial Day. It’s important to remember that Memorial Day is a day set aside to honor American men and women who died while serving our country.

We remember those who have given their lives in defense of our country. We will never forget you. We will always honor you and your sacrifice.
