The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence. ― Charles Bukowski
Today’s independent commentary deals with these people/issues:
- Circling the Drain
- Great Falls Public Schools
- Iowa Caucus
- The XFL
CIRCLING THE DRAIN:
I am a little late in posting The Monday Memo this morning because I’m a year older. Shame on me!
I never thought I’d be this old – Most days I feel like I am just circling the drain.
I don’t like to talk about my birthday. After 25, birthdays mostly suck. I don’t post my birthday on my personal Facebook (FB) page because I don’t like the fake attention.
I don’t wish most people happy birthday on FB personally. In the first part of January, I post a meme on FB that says, “To all my friends who are having birthdays this year, Happy Birthday.” That pretty much covers me for the year.
When you get so old, the question creeps in, “How much longer do I have?” The answer is, “One day less than yesterday.”
GREAT FALLS PUBLIC SCHOOLS:
The Great Falls Public Schools are never closed because of the weather, so early this morning when it was announced they were all closed, it was shocking. It was not because of the weather.
The Great Falls Police Department issued a press release that, in part, stated:
Early this morning a member of the staff found a message posted at a Great Falls Public Schools elementary school. The handwritten note included threatening verbiage, including a bomb threat, targeting multiple schools in the community.
As the safety of all students and staff is always a top priority for GFPS and GFPD, the decision was made to cancel all school activities for the day.
This childish act affected thousands of people. It not only affected teachers and other faculty, but students, their parents, and guardians.
I’m sure there are security cameras that will show who did this – or give officials some clues. Normally people who do this are not the smartest and they will talk.
I hope the authorities prosecute this person or persons to the fullest extent of the law.
IOWA CAUCUS:
I’ve said over and over on this blog that Iowa is the toilet bowl of America. I lived there at one time and can tell you that many of the residents are not too smart.
A prime example is the 2020 Iowa Democratic Caucus. They could not count. They could not run the App. They could not call in with the count. They could not produce the results for several days. Remember – they had four years to prepare for this one freaking day and they blew it.
The Iowa Caucus should be moved to June, or canceled. Caucuses are silly anyway.
Nonetheless, the Iowa Democratic Caucuses did come up with a winner – It was Republican Donald Trump. Trump and his supporters are asking, “How can the Democrats run the country when they can’t even run the Iowa Caucus?”
The actual winner of the Iowa Democratic Caucus was former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg with U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders coming in a close second. U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren was third, former Vice President Joe Biden was fourth. (NBC News)
The New Hampshire primary is tomorrow (Tuesday).
THE XFL:
I watched some XFL football games this weekend. They were entertaining. I will watch them again because it’s football. Any football is better than regular-season NBA basketball, hockey, baseball, or NASCAR.
The XFL posted a nice article with videos about the differences in the rules between the NFL and XFL. Watch/Read it HERE.
