The Wednesday Read

I like to burn my bridges while I’m still standing on them so people know that I’m serious about my crazy. – Unknown

Today’s topics include:

  • Clowns in Helena
  • U.S. Space Force
  • Bernie 2020

Clowns in Helena:

I’ve said before that if the members of the Montana Legislature concentrated on their jobs, they could finish their legislative duties quickly, save Montana some money, and maybe stop embarrassing the state.

Not this session. The clowns are out and about in our state capitol.

In case you missed, I wrote about a petition that proposed selling Montana to Canada for $1 trillion to help decrease our national debt. It has over 10,000 signatures.

The Great Falls Tribune reported that some members of the Montana Legislature are working on a bill taking the bold stand of opposing the sale of Montana to Canada. On Tuesday morning, the House State Administration Committee voted 15-5 to have staff draft a House resolution generally opposing the sale of Montana to Canada.

Sure the resolution is just for fun – but it’s also a waste of time and resources.

Do your job.

U.S. Space Force:

Back in August Vice President Mike Pence announced that the Trump Administration had determined that “The time has come to establish the United States Space Force.”

I wrote at that time:

This is a crazy idea. Asinine. We already have the very capable Air Force Space Command. We need a new branch of the military like we need a military parade in Washington, D.C.

On Tuesday, Reuters reported that the President signed a directive to start the lengthy process of creating a new branch of the military dedicated to handling threats in space, the U.S. Space Force.

The good news is that the new branch will fall under the U.S. Air Force. We still don’t need a new branch in the military. It’s a waste of time and resources.

Netflix is planning to create a show about the Space Force. In their preview they state:

On June 18, 2018, the federal government announced the creation of a 6th major division of the United States Armed Forces. The goal of the new branch is ‘to defend satellites from attack’ and ‘perform other space-related tasks.’ Or something. This is the story of the men and women who have to figure it out.

You can watch the preview HERE.

Bernie 2020:

Saying he wants to “complete that revolution” U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) announced that he was running for the Democratic nomination for President in 2020.

Sanders is 77 years old. His biggest competitor on the Democrat side might be 76 year old Joe Biden.

Later in the day, the Sanders campaign reported that they raised $4 million from 150,000 individual donors in all 50 states during the first 12 hours of his candidacy. (The Hill)

Sanders has a strong following. He should not be taken lightly.

  1. Jackie,I believe the elite that run the national democrat party will never let Bernie be nominated. The power structure is still weighted with Clinton-Obama people. Unfortunately I feel they will choose another coastal left winger that middle America just can’t pull the lever for and god help us four more years of the reality TV.

    • Dennis – you may be right. It may depend on who he picks to run with him. Thanks, JmB
