The Universe is under no obligation to make sense to you. – Neil deGrasse Tyson
Welcome to the big show to end the week “Caught My Eye” (CME)!
If you are a first-time visitor, CME is posted right here every Friday morning. This is when I take a look at some of the stories I did not have time to write about during the week. I often throw in a touch of sarcasm to make you smile – or to irritate you just a little – maybe both.
Topics that I am providing commentary about today include the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Laura Ingraham, Montana Democratic Party, Little Caesars, and One More Thing that you need to read!
Secretary of Veterans Affairs:
President Donald Trump fired VA Secretary David Shulkin this week. Trump nominated Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson to replace Shulkin.
In my opinion and as a veteran, it does not matter who is leading the VA. The problem with the VA lies with the top people in the network and regional offices. Each one is run like a little kingdom. They are virtually untouchable. They get rewarded for doing mediocre work.
There have been several VA Secretaries who have not lasted a full Presidential term over the years. They get the blame, but they are just figureheads. I doubt Jackson makes a difference.
Laura Ingraham went after Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg, 17, on Twitter this week saying:
David Hogg Rejected By Four Colleges To Which He Applied and whines about it. (Dinged by UCLA with a 4.1 GPA…totally predictable given acceptance rates.)
That was petty on Ingraham’s part. Hogg’s rejection by four colleges has nothing to do with his views on gun violence or gun control. She should stick to the issues and not attack him personally.
Hogg did not let Ingraham’s attack bother him. On Twitter, he listed the advertisers on her show and several pulled their ads. After that, Ingraham apologized on Twitter. Other advertisers have still pulled their ads. I heard there have been eight so far.
I think Ingraham and other right-wingers are failing to see how strong the “March for Our Lives” movement is.
It Just Got Interesting:
Lee Newspapers reported this week that the Montana Democratic Party filed a complaint saying that a political consulting firm named Advanced Micro Targeting may have engaged in unreported paid activity to help the Montana Green Party qualify for the ballot this year.
The Montana Democrats are worried that Green Party candidates will take votes from Democrats especially in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House races.
It will be interesting to see what happens if the complaint is true.
Don’t forget that Monday, April 2, from 11:30-1:00 Little Caesars is giving away a free lunch combo which is a four slice deep dish pizza with pepperoni and one 20 oz. Pepsi Cola product. Click HERE for details.
One More Thing:
USA Today reports that a nine-ton Chinese space station is supposed to crash to earth sometime between midday March 31 and early afternoon April 1, according to a Thursday prediction report by the European Space Agency.
The odds of space debris hitting you are less than one in 1,000,000,000,000. (Source)
So you’re telling me there’s a chance…
