Welcome to Terrific News Tuesday (TNT)!
In case this is your first time reading TNT, this column is all about good news. I know it’s hard to believe, but I won’t be complaining or criticizing anyone or anything in this column today – just writing about some terrific news that caught my attention!
Here are the stories that caught my attention for this week’s TNT column:
- Primary Election Day
- Rain, Rain, Snow?
- Beth Mowins
- Great Falls Voyagers
- Griz Remain Positive
Primary Election Day:
The good news is that Great Falls and other places across the fruited plains are holding primary elections today (Tuesday, September 12) for city commission.
The candidates are Fred Burow, Josh DeNully, Tyson Habein, Kate Hughes, Mary Sheehy Moe, Owen Robinson, and Rick Tryon.
Thanks to all those who are running. Good luck!
Rain, Rain, Snow?
The local weather people are calling for rain and colder temperatures later this week, with a chance of mountain snow. Montana needs moisture to help with the drought and with the wildfires, so this is great news.

I hope it warms up afterward; I have a few tomatoes that are really really close…
Beth Mowins was play-by-play announcer on ESPN’s Monday Night Football opening week late broadcast between the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos last night.
That makes Mowins the first woman to do play by play in an NFL game in 30 years and the first woman to call a Monday Night Football game.
One of the best tweets about Mowins came from Tracy Wolfson of CBS Sports:
Listening to Beth Mowins I can’t help but envision how many other girls are watching, “saying that’s what I want to do”!#breakingbarriers
Congrats to Mowins for an outstanding job. The game ended up being one of the better ones from opening weekend.
Great Falls Voyagers:
It was good to hear about the Great Falls Voyagers baseball team winning the Pioneer League North Division Series over the Missoula Osprey.
The Voyagers now take on the Southern Division champion Ogden Raptors Thursday night in Ogden. It’s a best of three series. Games two and three (if needed) will be played in Great Falls Saturday and Sunday.
More information can be found HERE.
Griz Remain Positive:
The University of Montana Grizzlies played the #7 ranked University of Washington Huskies Saturday night.
It was ugly. The Huskies whipped the Grizzlies 63-7. I should point out that the Huskies are an FBS (Division 1-A) school (the big ones) and the Grizzlies are an FCS (Division 1-AA) school (the next level down).
Smaller schools sometimes receive some decent compensation for being sacrificed. Once in a great while, they pull off an upset.
What the good news is with all this is the person running the Twitter account for Griz football (@MontanaGrizFB ) stayed positive during the butt-kicking. He/she posted the final score and tweeted, “Good effort from the Griz, but UW clearly a top-10 team. #GoGriz.”
The next day he/she tweeted, “#GrizFB players & coaches hit the film room today, pulling plenty of good from Saturday’s tough loss at #6 UW.”
I might disagree with the “good effort” and “pulling plenty of good from Saturday’s tough loss” but I like the positive attitude.
Stay positive my friend – it’s a long season…
